A new technique which involves implanting small globules of fat has greatly improved the cosmetic result and long-term results. Fat is often injected along the lip line and into the naso-labial fold (the line between the lip and the cheek). Fat can also enhance the cheek bones or fill out scars. Fat may be injected into the back of the hands to create a smoother fuller appearance. The recovery period is usually a few days. During this time, you may expect to have some swelling, and in some cases bruising. Infection is possible with any surgical procedure, even with the best of care. Therefore, it is important that you complete the course of antibiotics prescribed by Dr Lanzer. ProcedureThe procedure is usually performed in Dr Lanzer’s out-patient theatre in Malvern and would generally take less than an hour. An area is cleaned with antiseptic and blots of local anaesthetic are put over the donor area such as the stomach or hips. A small nick is made and the local anaesthetic fluid is pushed into the fat. A syringe is then passed in the fat which collects approximately 10-15mls of fat. Weeping of fluid may occur from the nick for the next day. The fat is then injected into the areas marked by Dr Lanzer. There is no guarantee that the fat injected will remain there permanently, but research shows that fat present at 5-8 weeks following the transplant may last for years. However, in some cases, for unknown reasons, all the fat can be re-absorbed and disappear. Fat transfer may be combined with other procedures such as laser resurfacing and facial relaxants. Unfortunately no guarantee can be given regarding the long-term improvement. >> Click here now for a FREE copy of Dr Lanzers cosmetic surgery book |
