Does A Breast Lift Leave Scars?
Many patients are concerned about breast lift scars after they have obtained the surgery. The appearance of breast lift scars depends on the surgical technique used by the cosmetic surgeon.
Patients with minimal scarring will have an incision around the areola and nipple, which are barely noticeable post procedure. However, when a patient suffers from a moderate case of ptosis, then there can be more visible scarring as the incision will go from around the areola to the breast crease. For patients who have a severe case of breast sagging, the surgeon can use a so-called anchor lift technique. For this technique, the surgeon will make an incision around the areola, goes down vertically on the breast, and then makes an incision in the breast crease.
While the cosmetic surgeon will always try to minimize scarring, the size of the scar will be determined by how much access the surgeon needs to the treatment area. For example, if the shape and size of your breasts need quite a drastic change, then the surgeon may need to make a bigger incision.
The incisions used during breast augmentation procedures and the resulting breast lift scars can be different in other breast surgeries, this includes the breast implant and for breast reduction. If breast lift surgery is combined with another procedure that affects breast tissue or excess skin, be sure to speak to your cosmetic surgeon.
Can You Get A Breast Lift Without Scars?
A breast lift without an incision has not been developed as of yet. However, surgical techniques have advanced considerably. Some breast surgeries are now executed with an absolute minimum amount of scarring. For example, breast reduction is no longer solely executed by the removal of breast tissue. Instead, the cosmetic surgeon can remove fat from the breasts.
Fat in the breast can be accessed by making a small nick in the breast. The surgeon then uses a cannula and gentle suction to remove the fat and alters the shape of the breasts. While this procedure still leaves some minor visible scarring, the scar is considerably less compared to a breast lift for severe ptosis. That being said, the incisions made during a breast lift are usually made in inconspicuous locations, for example, the crease of the breast.
If you are concerned about the incisions made during the procedure, speak to your cosmetic surgeon first and foremost. Your surgeon will show you where the incisions will be made and how they could look once they are fully healed.
How Long For Breast Lift Incisions To Heal?
Patients can resume their normal activities relatively quickly, but it will take some time for the incisions to fade. Of course, patients heal in their own time, so it is impossible to predict exactly how long it will take for the scars to become barely visible.
To view some examples, patients can view the before and after breast lift photographs. In these photographs, you can view how scars look after the procedure in a large portion of patients. However, please remember that results vary from patient to patient and the same applies to scarring.

Do Breast Lift Scars Go Away?
Breast lift scars will fade over time, much like any other scar after an injury or surgery. Scars will originally look dark red. Over the course of time, the scars will start to get lighter in colour. Eventually, the scar will turn into a small white line on the skin.
Good skincare can promote better scar healing. The Dr Lanzer Clinic can provide you with some additional advice on how to look after scars, but we can provide you with some tips already.
