What Is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is a medical problem that is associated with excessive sweating. Evidently, this means the patient can encounter excess sweat and odour from this condition.
Excessive sweating may occur in various areas of the body. However, the most common areas where excessive sweating can occur are the armpits, hands, feet, face, chest, and groin.
When hyperhidrosis occurs, it usually occurs on both sides of the body. For example, if you encounter hyperhidrosis in the armpits, then you will experience excessive underarm sweat on both sides.
What Causes Excessive Sweating?
There is no exact cause for excessive sweating. However, there is such a thing as secondary hyperhidrosis. This is basically hyperhidrosis with a cause that can be found. Some of these causes include menopause, pregnancy, anxiety, medication, reduced blood sugar, thyroid problems, and infections.
How Does MiraDry Work?
The MiraDry system can reduce sweating and is therefore a viable treatment for hyperhidrosis. A treatment session with the MiraDry treatment involves the use of a microwave device. Before the device is used, a local anaesthetic is used to numb the area in question, this ensures the patient can remain comfortable. Once the area is sufficiently numb, electromagnetic energy is delivered to the treatment area to eliminate the sweat glands. For example, during a treatment for excessive underarm sweating, the underarm sweat glands in the upper arm (more specifically the armpit) will be eliminated and will not return. This reduces the body’s ability to create sweat and subsequently eliminates hyperhidrosis.
How Long Does MiraDry Last?
MiraDry is a treatment procedure that provides a permanent solution for hyperhidrosis. The results of the MiraDry procedure are long-term, as the sweat glands are eliminated with a special device.

What Are The Side-Effects Of MiraDry?
The MiraDry is a procedure that comes with a relatively short downtime. However, it can be associated with side-effects such as bruising and swelling. These side-effects usually only occur for a couple of days after treatment.
For most patients, the side-effects reduce within a couple of days. Of course, every patients heals in his or her own time, sot his could be more or less depending on the patients own healing speed. If you have some additional questions about recovery, do not hesitate to contact The Dr Lanzer Clinic.
How Much Does MiraDry Cost?
Since the procedure can be executed in various areas of the body where there are sweat glands, the cost and duration of the procedure may vary from patient to patient. To get a better idea regarding the cost of your procedure, it is best to make an appointment at The Dr Lanzer Clinic. A free and no-obligation appointment is available to new patients of our clinic.
MiraDry Versus Other Treatments
There are some other treatments available for excessive sweating. Some of these include the use of anti-perspirants and anti-wrinkle injections. However, unlike the MiraDry, these treatments are only temporary.
Since MiraDry eliminates the sweat glands, the problem does not return. Anti-perspirants and anti-wrinkle injections only have a limited effect, which means they have to be repeated over a certain period of time.
Of course, some patients prefer treatments such as anti-perspirants and anti-wrinkle injections. If you are unsure which treatment is best for your hyperhidrosis, it can be a good idea to discuss the available options with your doctor or with a specialised health professional. The efficacy of certain types of treatment can also be subject to the severity of hyperhidrosis. This is one of the reasons why it is always best to speak to a specialist, who can lay out the options available to you and give you further insight into their effectiveness.
