Post Pregnancy Make Over
Post Pregnancy Make Over
Pregnancy can certainly take its toll on a woman’s body. We have many mums present to the clinic with very similar complaints; sagging, empty breasts, stubborn loose skin and excess stomach fat. No matter how much they exercise, they are not able to regain their pre-pregnancy physique. To understand why this occurs, it is important to understand what happens to the body during pregnancy, post pregnancy and mummy makeover procedures.
During a woman’s pregnancy, her stomach will expand, she will have excess fluid on board and her breast size will increase. The breasts will generally be the first area you will notice a gain in size and this is due to the increase in hormones progesterone and estrogen. This occurs in the first trimester and the breasts will continue to grow and expand as the milk producing cells increase in size. How well a woman’s breasts will regain their shape post pregnancy and breastfeeding relies a lot on genetics. Majority of women will find that their breasts are either a different size or shape, or just not as perky as they once were prior to having children.
More About Post Pregnancy Make Over
A woman’s stomach will also grow as does the baby she is carrying. Our internal organs are enclosed by what is known as the Recti Muscles. These are two sheets of muscle that meet in the centre of the abdomen in line with the belly button (see image below). As the woman approaches the last stage of her pregnancy, these muscles can often separate to accommodate more room for the growing baby. This is what is known as “Diastasis Recti”. This can be felt by laying the woman on her back, knees up and having her lift her head. If there is a Diastasis Recti, you will be able to feel a soft area ranging from 1 to 5cm vertically above and below the belly button.

For many years Dr Lanzer has specialised in Tumescent Liposuction and has been able to offer this to women who struggled to lose the excess fat from their stomachs or who struggled with heavy, large breasts post pregnancy.

Dr Lanzer has undergone extensive one on one training in America to now include Tummy Tucks, Breast Lifts and Breast Augmentation into his specialties on offer to patients. This means he can now offer a range of procedures to give patients a more holistic, post pregnancy body makeover.
Dr Lanzer has chosen to specialise in Tumescent Lipoabdominoplasty. This is a term used to describe the type of tummy tucks he performs which includes the use of a combination of tumescent liposuction with an abdominoplasty procedure.
Discover Post Pregnancy Advantages!
An increasingly large amount of patients now opt for Post Pregnancy procedures. The final result from this procedure is a flat stomach with the Rectus Abdominis muscle brought back together.

How is the procedure done?
This procedure is performed by firstly filling the abdomen with Tumescent fluid through small keyhole incisions. The fluid is used to not only make the area go numb but also to constrict the blood vessels, therefore, minimising bleeding. Dr Lanzer is able to then perform liposuction to the area to remove the excess fat (and multiple other areas of the body if requested by the patient). Once the liposuction procedure is completed, Dr Lanzer then creates an incision in the area of the bikini line and removes the excess skin (relocating the belly button if required). If the patient has a Diastasis Recti, Dr Lanzer will secure this muscle back together using a row of very strong sutures. The patient will have a dressing over the incision and a drain tube for a few days post operatively. They will also be required to wear a compression garment.
Using Tumescent Fluid prior to performing the Abdominoplasty highly reduces the risk of bleeding intra or post operatively. This, therefore, reduces the risk or excess bleeding associated with this procedure and more comfortable to recovery. The procedure will not eliminate stretch marks acquired during pregnancy, however, if these stretch marks are in the area where the skin has been removed, they will of course be minimised.
There are occasions when the Rectus Abdominis muscle does not require suturing together and when the belly button does not require moving. We refer to this as a Mini Tummy Tuck. (see images below)

Post Pregnancy Breast Lift
Dr Lanzer also performs a method called “Ideal Breast Lift’ which he trained on in America during a hands on preceptorship. Details of this can be found on this website. A breast lift may be performed alone for lift or together with an implant.
