Cosmetic Surgery Melbourne Prices
COSMETIC SURGERY MELBOURNE PRICES
Cosmetic surgery has undergone a tremendous increase in interest over the last 25 years. As a dermatologist who graduated about 30 years ago, I am most fortunate to have been around when so many developments have occurred with cosmetic surgery. My main practice has always been in Melbourne. However, I have offered patients in Sydney, Perth, Queensland, Adelaide, and Tasmania the options of consultations in their state and surgery. At different times, I operated in Queensland and Sydney, but we find that by having our full Day Surgery Centre in Melbourne, that it works better for patients just to travel to us. Of recent, we have opened a small day surgery centre in Pitt Street in Sydney. The cost of maintaining and having a day surgery with the latest equipment, lasers, and other devices is astronomical. Therefore, it is hard to reproduce the standard that we expect in multiple cities. By having our own day surgery centre, we find that we can keep the prices of the day surgery theatres to a minimum.
WHAT IS THE COST OF LIPOSCULPTURE?
It has been interesting that the actual prices of cosmetic surgery, particularly in Melbourne have not changed all that much over the last 25 years. You will find Dr Lanzer’s prices very reasonable and competitive. It will depend on your size, height, type of anaesthetic and exactly which areas are done. One of the most dramatic areas that I find liposculpture to be very cost effective is that of the neck. It is a small procedure which does not take that long. Patients can return to work usually in a couple of days. The effect of losing the sagging, drooping neck takes years off of people’s lives cosmetically. The procedure lasts for many, many years if not almost indefinitely.
WHAT IS THE COST OF FACIAL REJUVENATION?
People often ask me, “What is the cost and price of facial rejuvenation?” The real cost is dependent on what procedures are performed. My approach to cosmetic surgery of the face is to try and work out first of all, what is the area and the particular problem that the patient dislikes. Then I try to explain to them what I see as the primary problem. The procedure that I take is aimed at performing the least invasive method with the maximum result. The ultimate goal is that the patient should look the same, yet just younger and healthier. They should be able to keep it a secret if that is what they want. Full face rejuvenation costs can vary from $400 to over $20,000. There are other costs that patients need to take into account when having a procedure. These may include the cost of loss of work if it is a procedure that has down time. It may include the cost of babysitters for children and possibly sometimes the cost of a caregiver or husband or wife taking time off of work for a day or two. Generally, when we give a quote for the cost of procedures, we try to make it as inclusive as we can so that all the after cares are included in the one-up charge. Patients may have extra costs which would include garments, creams for healing, tablets for bruising, tablets for extra vitamin boosts, and costs for antibiotics and antiseptic washes. When I perform breast reduction, I usually request a mammogram or ultrasound. There would be some costs involved with that procedure as well. However, a lot of pre-operative procedures and pre-operative blood tests are largely covered by Medicare. Therefore there are not a lot of out-of-pocket costs.
CAN I CLAIM THE COSMETIC PROCEDURE ON MEDICARE OR PRIVATE INSURANCE?
People often ask me can they claim the cost of the procedure on Medicare or on their private insurance. There are unfortunately very few procedures where patients can still claim on Medicare or their private insurance. Even in these situations it is usually only a small part of the costs. Procedures that we perform that still have item numbers include laser for severe acne scarring, laser blepharoplasty when the skin is obstructing some of the visual field, breast reduction, and excision removal of breast man boobs-gynecomastia, and a tummy tuck.
IS THE COST OF COSMETIC SURGERY WORTH IT?
People often ask me if the price of cosmetic surgery or the ultimate costs are worth it. This is not a question that I can usually answer by myself as ultimately, it is determined by the patient themselves as to what is the cost benefit. For some people, a procedure could almost be life-changing and worth every cent. For others, it may be a large expense with only a moderate effect. The patient needs to balance up what really is their concern and what they are hoping to ultimately get out of it.
One other interesting thing is that some patients decide themselves that they are going to have the procedure. Others like to go home and discuss the cost and the price with their spouses. Sometimes, people come in groups in order to get a price reduction. We are very fair with people when this is done. Either way we do offer a free no-obligation consultation about the prices of all different cosmetic surgeries and the costs involved with the procedure. Nothing is lost by getting that free assessment.
