Facial Dermal Fillers (Fat Transfer)
Hyaluronic acid is a support fluid which occurs naturally in human skin, depletion of this fluid can cause loss of volume, which in turn leads to folds and wrinkles in the skin. Hyaluronic gel fillers work with the bodies own hyaluronic acid reserves to restore or increase the skin’s volume; smoothing and lifting lines and folds, and providing an anti-ageing result. Hyaluronic Gel Filler can also be used to remodel cheeks and cheekbones, jawlines and noses.
The choice of hyaluronic acid as the basis for a wrinkle filler makes good sense. Hyaluronic acid is a nontoxic, biodegradable, biocompatible polymer naturally found in human skin. Compared to older protein-based products like bovine collagen, it has simpler structure, is more stable, and contains no known allergens. This means there is no need for a test dose and treatments can be undertaken immediately on consultation.
Hyaluronic acid fillers come in the form of a clear gel, which is placed in small amounts into the mid layer of the skin. The gel adds natural volume to those areas where the bodies own hyaluronic acid has been depleted, and smoothes the surface.
The areas of the face that can be treated with dermal /hyaluronic acid fillers are:
The lips and lip border to create definition or a fuller more voluptuous look if desired, as well as lines around the mouth such as oral commissures, bleeding lipstick lines and naso-labial lines or folds. In the upper part of the face, fillers can be used to treat lines beside the eyes (crows feet) and glabella (frown lines), as well as cheek augmentation.
Tear Troughs – Hyaluronic gel fillers can now be used for tear troughs. These are the areas under eyes where there is shadowing or dark circles. The filler lifts this area reducing the shadowing and giving a less tired appearance.
Jawline – Hyaluronic gel fillers can also be used to firm and strengthen the jawline as well as the marionettes, which are the areas down from the corners of your mouth reducing the sour look and giving a more youthful anti-ageing appearance.
Acne scars and other depressions can be filled and smoothed. It can even be used to reshape the nose.
CHEEK VOLUME REPLACEMENT
• simple injection restores volume to the cheeks
• anti aging by returning the face youthful shape
• non surgical alternative
• good to combine with other anti aging treatments
Dr Lanzer has been using a new type of hyaluronic gel injection specifically effective for filling cheeks and larger depressions on the face. “volume fillers” are used to fill out volume deficiencies.
Dr Lanzer also can transfer some of your own fat to be used as a filler for volumising areas on the face. (LINK FAT TRANSFER)
As we age, facial fat loss, gravity, and loss of the skin’s natural elasticity conspire to age the central face, leading to a narrower, less youthful cheek, forehead and temple area, and a wider, heavier jaw line.
Fortunately, we can restore the face’s balance and heart-shaped proportions, revolumising facial hollows, lost volume and recontouring the cheeks, cheekbones, and nose for a fuller, softer, more youthful appearance.
A small amount of local anesthetic is placed on the outer cheek and the filler is injected via one small needle. It can fill the cheeks and also give the cheekbone more definition. It is different to other fillers in that it is placed very deep under the skin and is much thicker. The injections take just a few minutes
The effect is seen immediately and makeup can be applied straight after the treatment. The results show that this filler can last around 18-24 months although there probably will be variations between patients.
• As with all facelift procedure including fillers a bruise may occur.
• There is a variation between patients as to how long the filler lasts
• Allergy reactions are now very rare with the new fillers.
How long do hyaluronic acid fillers last?
In most patients facial fillers such as these last for 6 to 18 months depending on factors such as skin structure, lifestyle and age. Treatment is quick and simple with spectacular improvement. Results are clearly visible in all patients after just half an hour.

Polyacrylamide more long term gel fillers are a revolutionary product for aesthetic surgery. Polyacrylamide more long term filler is a completely transparent gel containing 97.5% water and 2.5% polyacrylamide – which is a biologically inert, non-biodegradable polymer. Polyacrylamide gel filler is injected into the skin with a fine needle and the area is then manipulated by the surgeon to achieve the desired result. After a short time the gel feels as if it was a natural part of the skin.
Following treatment the polyacrylamide particles become enmeshed with the skins own connective fibres and, as a result, the gel rarely moves away from the injection site. This means that procedures performed with polyacrylamide gel filler are generally considered more long term and a well-placed augmentation may last without further treatments or touch-ups for a long time. This also means that it is vital to consult with a highly experienced surgeon for this treatment; Dr Lanzer has been working successfully with polyacrylamide gel fillers since 2002.
Polyacrylamide Gel Filler is suitable for:
• Fuller, more defined lips
• More prominent, sculpted cheekbones
• Creating a more defined chin or smoothing a dimpled chin
• Reducing the nasolabial fold (the line from the nose to the corner of the mouth)
• Minimising down-turned corners of the mouth (downward folds from the corner of the mouth)
• Smoothing furrows between the eyebrows
• Smoothing deep wrinkles, scar tissue and acne scars
Polyacrylamide more long term gel filler settles as a soft filler under the skin where it is injected. Immediately after the injection the doctor can manipulate the area so the contours are exactly as they should be. After a short time it feels as if it was a natural part of the skin. The gel however is not absorbed into the skin. This means that the procedure does not need to be repeated after a few months, which is the case with other methods. The gel stays exactly where it has been placed, and this is what makes this filler unique. Aesthetic corrections with Polyacrylamide more long term gel filler need neither hospitalisation nor general anesthetic. In some cases the doctor will use a local anaesthetisation for the area which is to be corrected, but normally this is unnecessary. A very fine needle is used, so that the discomfort of the procedure is minimal.
At first, the corrected area may be a little tender and swollen, but this usually subsides after a day or two. You should be able to return to work immediately, but it is advisable to avoid direct sunlight or extreme cold for the first two or three weeks.
• Dr Lanzer warns that Polyacrylamide more long term filler is new to Australia (May 2002) and therefore cannot give any personal guarantees regarding permanency.
• Allergy or infection to a more long term filler although rare would be potentially serious
• Polyacrylamide is a theoretical toxin, but is only present in a minute dose
• Many doctors refuse to use more long term fillers especially around the mouth due to fear that things may change structurally over the years.
We believe that the best results of fillers is seen when skin rejuvenation therapy is combined. Today there are many noninvasive light sources and therapies that can help make the skin surface appear smoother, refreshed and tighter. Dr Lanzer finds that combining treatments is effective and may suggest treatments such as microdermabrasion, Revlite, Aura, Isolaz, Portraite or Dermaxel Fractional Laser.
Due to Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) laws about advertising trade names in Australia over the Internet, it has become necessary to label some treatments products with different names. Please call us on 1800 444 333 for more information.
