Eyelid Surgery Before & After Photos (12)

Before

This patient had excess skin and fat on her upper eyelid, causing it to hang to a point where it almost touches the lashes. The patient is a good candidate for an upper Blepharoplasty.

After

The patient underwent an upper Blepharoplasty procedure whereby excess skin and fat was removed using specialised lasers. Removing this excess skin has opened her eyes and created a more aesthetic natural upper crease.

What Happens After an Eyelid Surgery Procedure?

Many patients wonder what happens right after an eyelid surgery procedure. Since most patients are not yet familiar with the recovery process after cosmetic surgery, we provide everyone with the information they require before their procedure takes place. To learn more about the recovery process, be sure to read the information regarding post-eyelid surgery below.

What Aftercare Is Provided After Eyelid Surgery?

You will spend approximately 1-1.5hours in recovery. Most patients are discharged home with a carer shortly afterwards. If you had the blepharoplasty procedure alone, then you will not have any dressings in place. However, if you had a combination of a blepharoplasty and Erbium laser resurfacing then you will have an occlusive dressing over the resurfaced skin to protect it. This dressing is changed one day later and left in place for a further 5 days.

The sutures on the upper lid are to be removed 7 days post procedure. Although these sutures are dissolvable, the upper lid will heal faster than the sutures have time to dissolve, so we find that for patient comfort it is better that we give them a helping hand. You may have some initial puffiness and bruising of the eye during this recovery period.

If there is any significant swelling, then Dr Lanzer may choose to place you on a course of cortisone to reduce the swelling. If you have had laser resurfacing, once the occlusive dressing is removed (5 days post-surgery) there will be some redness of the skin, like a sunburn. Initially we recommend using a simple moisturiser such as sorbolene but can also offer a pharmaceutical grade foundation especially formulated for post laser patients. It is important to continue to look after your skin post-surgery.

How Can I Maintain the Results Post-Surgery?

Taking care of your skin can affect the results you obtain from eyelid surgery. After all, you have put in all the time and effort to have the procedure done in the first place, why not do all you can to get the longevity out of it?

Protecting yourself from the sun is a good place to start, ensuring you are wearing at least a 30+ sunscreen daily. Using good serums and moisturisers will also ensure the condition of your skin is maintained to its best potential.

There is additional assistance available for patients who want to get the best skincare routine for their skin type. Since Dr Lanzer is also a licensed dermatologist, you can certainly speak to him about your skincare routine. He can even recommend some products from his own D’Lumiere Esthétique range. To find out more about this range of skincare products, please head over to the D’Lumiere Esthétique website.
