Cost of Eyelid Rejuvenation (Blepharoplasty)

Very commonly, patients write to me, inquiring about the cost of eyelid rejuvenation. It is always hard to give an exact price over the internet as there are so many different approaches and components to eyelid rejuvenation. Essentially, eyelid rejuvenation can fall into 3 main groups. There is elevation of the brows, called brow lift. There is the upper eyelid skin and fat which we call upper eyelid blepharoplasty.

There is the lower eyelid, which refers to the fat collection and wrinkling the skin. If we look at the blepharoplasty procedures, occasionally the costs of upper lid blepharoplasty can be partly claimed through Medicare and other private health insurances in Australia. This is because there may be a medical element to the procedure where the skin actually hangs onto the eyelashes or over the front of the eye and affects the vision of the patient.

The patients often find that it is hard for them to see straight ahead. They may in fact suffer from headaches. One of the common things that we see is that the patient constantly frowns just to get the skin off their lashes. The cost of an upper blepharoplasty is usually around $3,500. The cost does not include the theatre fees which also involve an anesthetist and assistants. Generally speaking, there is no extra cost for using a laser despite the fact that the laser costs over $150,000. The laser is used as Dr. Lanzer finds that it reduces bleeding and swelling and it gives him a more precise accuracy in removing fat and other unwanted tissue around the eyes.

The lower lid blepharoplasty normally costs around $3,000. There are also theatre fees that may be related to this. Combining procedures with blepharoplasty and also combining other surgical procedures on the face will often reduce the cost to the patient as they will receive a package deal. If someone wishes to have a more accurate indication of costs, then there is no question that it is better to come in for a free no-obligation opinion where the exact costs are given. Dr. Lanzer believes that it is very important that there is never any vagueness with the costs and all patients will be given a full written quotation of the exact costs related to the procedure.

Dr. Lanzer has been performing laser blepharoplasty for approximately 20 years. Interestingly, the actual cost of laser blepharoplasty has not changed significantly during that time. Generally speaking with cosmetic surgery, the costs that are paid upfront before the procedure cover all after-care treatments. Dr. Lanzer will often see patients 10 or 20 times post surgery. This is all included. Besides the actual procedure of the laser blepharoplasty, there are other costs that patients can sometimes be faced with. Patients will usually require an antibiotic and possibly some Arnica for swelling.
