Laser Blepharoplasty Surgery Example
This Laser Blepharoplasty Surgery patient highlights some of the different approaches and factors that are relevant when considering cosmetic surgery. She underwent Facelift & Eyelift Surgery including laser resurfacing for wrinkles and laser blepharoplasty for heavy eyelids. She is also a candidate for mini face lift surgery.
WHAT DOES ONE LOOK FOR WHEN CONSIDERING COSMETIC SURGERY IN PATIENTS for eg.
Laser Blepharoplasty Surgery ?
The first things that I assess is, is the main problem one of skin texture such as in this case where there is wrinkles and fine lines which will be improved with laser therapy or is there more of an issue of drooping such as drooping around the eyes or drooping of the lower face and neck which requires either Laser Blepharoplasty Surgery or mini facelift.
Some of the factors that come in to play at this point would then be the patient’s age, their general health and what they are trying to get out of the cosmetic surgery procedure.
WHEN WOULD Laser Blepharoplasty Surgery BE INDICATED?
In this case, one can see that the heavy skin is covering most of the upper eyelid and therefore, the laser will open the lid and make the patient look more youthful. In her case, she also has a brow drooping element and would benefit from a brow lift. Dr. Lanzer performs a direct brow lift above the eyebrow. This would pick up the residual loose skin that is present on the skin.
WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF HAVING A Laser Blepharoplasty Surgery ?
The Laser Blepharoplasty Surgery means that there is more skin visible on the upper eyelid so that the patient looks more awake and less tired. It also makes patients look younger and certainly they will often have a better self esteem.
WHEN DOES ONE DECIDE ON LASER RESURFACING AS OPPOSED TO PHOTO REJUVENATION?
If there is just slight aging or pigmented issues then there are many good photo rejuvenation non-surgical therapies for the skin. These include fractionated therapy such as profractional erbium, fractionated CO2, Viva radiofrequency fractionated, and Dermapen. All these treatment are aimed at stimulating the underlying collagen so that there will be tighter skin and a more smooth rejuvenated appearance. There is very little down time. The procedures including Facelift & Eyelift Erbium procedures are performed in many of Dr. Lanzer’s clinics around Australia including Melbourne and Sydney.
Once there are deeper lines or acne scars, then laser resurfacing would be indicated as in this case. The laser passes over the skin whilst the patient is asleep and a new epidermis and dermis is formed from the deeper cells under the skin. Once healing occurs in about 7 days, the skin is slightly pink but fresh, clean, and tighter and a lot smoother.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF LASER RESURFACING?
The main risk is not to perform it on someone who has olive skin as there is a risk of pigmentation. The other risks are listed in the consent forms.
I NOTE THAT THIS LADY HAS FEWER BUMPS ON THE NOSE.
Yes. The laser removes all imperfections such as moles and makes the skin smoother and cleaner.
I NOTE THAT THIS LADY HAS PUFFY CHEEKS. IS THIS GOOD FOR FACE LIFT?
Generally, the face lifts are easier if the skin is less puffy and more wrinkled. Thin skin tends to slide quite easily and is ideal for Facelift & Eyelift Erbium surgery.
WHEN DOES ONE DECIDE ABOUT PUTTING IN AN IMPLANT OR FAT TRANSFER?
One of the factors we assess in the skin is how much is their depression and loss of volume particularly in the cheeks. A more youthful appearance has a round, more convex surface as seen in children. Stem cells are often added to fat to make it last longer. Otherwise, there are many simple hyaluronic fillers that can improve the volume of the face. You can view more photographs before and afters here.
HOW IMPORTANT IS HAIRSTYLE?
Hairstyle and makeup make a real big difference in how patients appear after surgery. Dr. Lanzer does encourage general good care and lifestyle changes to improve the results as in this case.
