Eyelid Surgery Information
When consulting potential patients it is interesting to hear how many complain that they feel they look “tired”, “grumpy”, “heavy” or “unwell”. The eyes are generally the first place one will look at when talking to another person, so they tell us a lot about that individual. Sometimes genetics can mislead us. Inherited problems such as heavy, loose skin on the upper eyelid, excess eyelid fat and large lower eyelid bags can lead to the impression that you are “tired” or “unwell” even if you have just returned from holiday well rested! If you yourself have heavy upper eyelid skin, you may feel as though you are constantly raising your eyebrows to give your eyes the appearance of being larger, or simply to take more in. This can be tiring to the muscles by the end of a day, not to mention the wrinkles it will cause on your forehead. No matter how much sleep and rest you will get, this will not rid you of the problem. Lower eyelid bags are very difficult to disguise and unfortunately can be a problem for many individuals from a young age. Even though we can camouflage dark circles with makeup, we cannot simply cover up excess volume. By undergoing a Blepharoplasty procedure (Eyelid Surgery) by Dr Lanzer, you will look refreshed, well rested and years younger! The results are achieved quickly, usually with a down time of 10 days. Patients that have suffered from eyelid heaviness describe this procedure as life changing.
The advantages of the procedure can be further added to by combining the procedure with complementary procedure, both surgical and non-surgical. Laser rejuvenation to the lower eyelid is often done in combination with the lower eyelid surgery to tighten the skin. Muscle relaxants can be used to reduce wrinkles around the eyes and can also help to lift the brow.
Healing and Recovery
Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery takes place here at our fully accredited day surgery centre. Prior to the procedure patients are educated in the healing and recovery process so they are well aware of what to expect. Dr Daniel Lanzer has a gentle and precise technique, which helps to ensure a minimal recovery time. Although post procedure analgesia is provided, many patients report no pain during recovery. It is more common that patients will report “discomfort” and are surprised at the fact they have no pain. Some swelling is expected, however minimal bruising with the advanced technique incorporated by Dr Lanzer. Patients will have stitches in their upper eyelid for approximately 7 days and once these are removed, patients will feel instant relief. The incision line is made in the natural crease of the eye, so whilst it may remain a reddish colour whilst healing, it is easily disguised and can be covered with makeup. Patients should expect to be “photo ready” at day 14.
What does the procedure treat?
The laser cuts away the loose skin and fat from the upper lid so more of the lid is visible. From inside the lower lid the fat bag is removed. There is no cutting if the skin.
Finally the lines around the eye are smoothed using a laser.
Why use a Laser?
The laser is precise and mostly bloodless. It is accurate and in Dr Lanzer’s hands means less risk and scarring.
