Facelift Makeover Erbium Procedure
Dr Lanzer was one of the first doctors in Australia and Victoria to use the cosmetic lasers in 1994. The initial laser was a CO2, and this was later replaced with the contour erbium. The facelift makeover erbium procedure is a computer-controlled laser that can determine how deep it goes depending on the skin rejuvenation required for specific patients. The laser works on water contained in the skin and gently vaporises the impaired skin cells throughout the treatment. It causes the skin to tighten while stimulating collagen.
Do I Need An Anaesthetic?
A full facelift makeover laser procedure requires the patient to have a general anaesthetic in our Day Hospital and there is no need for an overnight stay. The procedure takes approximately 20 minutes and is performed by Dr Lanzer running the laser across the desired area of the face. Depending on the condition of the skin, some patients choose to treat just the lower eyelids, upper lip or full face. In these cases, just local anaesthetic is used.
Who Is The Laser Best Suited For?
The laser works best on patients with fair skin and is a popular procedure in conjunction with a mini facelift makeover procedure. Olive skin patients have a higher risk of pigmentation. Fine smoker like lines and wrinkles from sun damage or facial movement also respond to this laser.
The erbium can also help to remove acne scars and unwanted lesions like pearly penile papules, syringomas, cysts and keratosis.
Erbium is a laser used to treat wrinkles, sun damaged skin, freckles, pigmentation and scaring on the face. It causes the skin to form a new layer of cells, therefore is a very effective laser in skin rejuvenation. The laser gives a more even skin tone as well as a smoother more youthful appearance. This is a very popular procedure performed at Dr Lanzer’s clinic.
The results can be very long lasting and even give improvement for decades. Sun protection after healing will also make the results last longer.
What Should I Know About Recovery?
There is usually minimal pain involved in the recovery however pain relief is prescribed if required. When the patient is taken into recovery after the procedure, the nurses apply a thin white dressing to all areas that has been treated by the laser. These dressings will stay in place until the next day when the patient will come back to the clinic and the nurses will change the dressings. These new dressings will stay in place for four to five days. The face must not get wet and spare dressings will be given to the patient to replace if required. On the final day the patient will come into the clinic and the nurses will soak the dressings off and clean the face. For approximately one week after the dressings are removed the patient can have a red face but will continue to clear up each day and makeup can be worn at this time. Post-surgery, Dr Lanzer is always contactable to answer questions via calling the clinic or on his pager after hours. Patients are encouraged to book in to see the nurses or the doctor if there is anything they are concerned about in their recovery. You can view more before and after photos here.
What Are The Risks?
There are minimal risks involved with a facelift makeover. Infection is a very rare risk and all patients begin a course of antibiotics prior to surgery as a prevention. If patients have a history of getting cold sores, we recommend taking a medication called Valtrex to prevent one from forming. Pigmentation is also a risk and sun protection needs to be worn for a few months after procedure. Olive skin patients can experience pigmentation after laser treatment, which is why the procedure is best suited for fair skin patients.
Do I Need Makeup?
Makeup enhances the results and also protects from sun damage and so is encouraged by Dr Lanzer. It can usually be applied after 7-10 days after a facelift makeover. Sun protection is valuable for a few months.
Will People Know I Had Laser Resurfacing?
The majority of patients keep this procedure secret. They look more youthful and have cleaner fresher skin. For other facelift procedures click here.
