These photos are of a lady in her 50’s who had multiple procedures to obtain the overall desired result. She does highlight the use of technology in the year 2014 and how cosmetic surgery has changed and developed due to so much research and investigation and investment in different equipment.
WHAT LASERS WERE USED IN THIS PROCEDURE?
The CO2 laser in a cutting mode was used to remove the loose skin of her upper eye lids. One can now visualise that she has upper eyelids where she can apply her makeup and eye shadow as opposed to the pre-photos where the skin and muscle was pushing on to her upper eyelashes. The CO2 was used in the cutting mode in the upper eyelid crease and also on the lower lid to remove the lower lid fat bags. The 2nd laser that she had was the contour erbium laser which smoothed, tightened and cleansed the fine wrinkling particularly around her lower eyelids. The laser was also used all over the face to give a rejuvenated and freshened appearance. The laser is ideal for removing pigmentation spots and fine wrinkles but can be used in a deeper mode to treat deeper wrinkles, particularly seen in smokers around the upper lip.
WHAT OTHER PROCEDURES DID SHE HAVE DONE?
This lady also benefitted from the tumescent liposculpture method. The tumescent liposculpture allows doctors to perform liposculpture on sensitive areas such as the neck and jowls. The fat was removed and the skin was retracted and tightened. As well as this, the tumescent liposculpture prepares the cheek skin for the mini face lift.
WHERE IS THE MAXIMUM RESULT OF THE MINI FACE LIFT?
Generally speaking, one can see the maximum result of the mini face lift on the lower face where the sagging was collecting around the jowls and on the neck where there is a loss of angle between jaw and neck line. A mini face lift tightens the muscles on both the face and neck and excess skin is removed from around the ears.
The other area that was of interest for this lady was lip filler. There are many types of lip fillers. The filler gives more volume to the lip shape. This has been an extra bonus in this procedure. In a sense, this procedure is called a full surgical makeover in that we have treated the eyes, the skin texture/complexion surface, drooping of the face and the drooping and loss of angle of the neck. Patients often ask me how much younger will they look. I would have thought that this photo overall looks approximately 10 years younger. However, if one focuses in on the eyes where there is a lot of heaviness, the change may have even been more. It is very important never to promise a specific age reduction as it is very subjective and what the doctor or cosmetic and plastic surgeon believes is 10 years may be more or less in the patient’s eyes. What is more important is to make sure that the patient understands what each component of the makeover surgery is aimed at improving. This lady may continue on to look after her skin with appropriate sun protection and may look at some of the light rejuvenation lasers as an ongoing maintenance.
