To ensure our patients have a full overview of cosmetic procedures, The Dr Lanzer Clinic always provides plenty of information to patients. Among our informative pages, you will also find many before and after otoplasty photos. These before and after pictures of otoplasty give you a much better idea of how prominent ears can be corrected with ear surgery.

On this page, you can find some otoplasty surgery before and after photographs. You can also find more information about the otoplasty below. If you are considering this procedure, please read the information provided by Dr Lanzer and his associates below.

How long does it take to heal from Otoplasty?

Most patients recover quickly from the otoplasty, as the non-surgical otoplasty can be executed under local anaesthesia. Of course, your recovery can depend heavily on the type of otoplasty you have, as there is a surgical type of otoplasty as well.

Dr Lanzer or one of his associates can recommend the right type of otoplasty for you after your initial consultation. It all depends on the structure of the ears and the overall severity of the prominent ears.

What is the best age for Otoplasty?

There is no real recommended age for otoplasty. There is no age limit for the otoplasty either, but there is a minimum age. In fact, the ears must be fully developed before the procedure can take place. This is also why it is important for the patient to attend a consultation with an experienced cosmetic surgery. If the patient is quite young, then the parents of the patient should gain enough information about the procedure and always get a second opinion.

Do ears go back after Otoplasty?

The results obtained from the otoplasty are long lasting in nature. The results are also immediate. However, the results of a surgical otoplasty may be less visible until the swelling that can occur after the procedure goes down.

Please note that some otoplasty procedures are reversible. For example, a non-surgical procedure is executed by the strategic placement of sutures. If the patient is unhappy with the results, the sutures can be removed, and the ear will return to its original position. However, the sutures must be removed within a certain amount of time, otherwise the cartilage will conform to its new position and the ear will maintain its new form despite the sutures being removed.

What can you not do after Otoplasty?

There are a couple of things that should be avoided shortly after your procedure. One of the things patients must avoid is strenuous activity. For example, most patients will have to avoid heavy physical activity for at least three weeks after their procedure. Of course, this is an estimate, so please speak to your cosmetic surgery about your recovery time and follow the guidelines provided to you.

Certain medications should also be avoided during the recovery process; this includes medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and certain herbal supplements. When in doubt, always contact The Dr Lanzer Clinic before taking any medications.

Some patients will have a dressing around the ears shortly after the ear surgery. It is important to leave the dressing into place until your follow-up appointment with Dr Lanzer, unless specified otherwise by Dr Lanzer or one of his associates. Patients should also keep their dressing dry. If the dressing should fall off, it is important to contact The Dr Lanzer Clinic, as it is important to keep the area protected.

Patients may find it beneficial to keep their head a little more elevated while they are sleeping. Ideally, patients should sleep with their head elevated for two weeks after their surgery. Patients should also avoid sleeping on their side, as this could cause more pressure on the ears or could influence the results obtained through the surgery. Of course, patients will be able to sleep on their side again once their ears have sufficiently healed.

Dr Lanzer or one of his associates may also recommend that patients wear a special headband around the head and ears for a couple of weeks after the procedure. For most patients, the headband needs to be worn for approximately six weeks.

Can Otoplasty go wrong?

While the otoplasty does carry risks, cosmetic surgerys will do everything possible to reduce the risk to patients. Nevertheless, it is important to always seek a second opinion and to gain enough information about the procedure before going ahead. At The Dr Lanzer Clinic, you will be required to sign a consent form, which describes all the risks associated with the procedure in more detail. Should you have questions about these risks, do not hesitate to contact The Dr Lanzer Clinic for more information.

Patients should always keep an eye out for complications. If you notice an elevated temperature, please contact The Dr Lanzer Clinic as soon as possible.
