Non-surgical ear pinning is an ear pinning procedure that does not require incisions. Instead of removing skin and cartilage to correct protruding large ears (often referred to as "Bat-ears"), the cosmetic surgeon will place permanent sutures in the ears and force the cartilage to adopt a new position. Ear surgery or ear correction can be quite a complex procedure. Surgical otoplasty procedures can also be accompanied by a longer recovery process, which is another reason why most people look for a non-surgical ear pinning procedure instead of ear pinning surgery.
The cost of most cosmetic surgery is variable, there are a variety of factors that can influence the overall cost such as the scope of the procedure, anaesthetist usage, and the experience of the cosmetic surgeon must be considered. Additionally, some patients may be eligible for medicare rebates, and with the use of private health insurance costs may differ. If you wish to obtain an accurate quote for cosmetic treatments, including the non-surgical ear pinning treatment, please take advantage of the no-obligation free appointment available at the Dr Lanzer Clinic.
The non-surgical otoplasty works, albeit a little different than the surgical otoplasty surgery. During a surgical correction, the cosmetic surgeon can remove cartilage and skin to influence the overall look of the ear as well as reshaping its size. During a non-surgical procedure, the ear is placed closer to the side of the head by strategic sutures. So, while the size of the ear remains unaffected, the position of the ear is altered.
To ensure non-surgical otoplasty is the right solution for your problem, it is essential to speak to your cosmetic surgeon about your expectations. Be sure to talk about the specific things that bother you about your ears or are self-conscious of, so your surgeon can determine if those problems can be tackled with the non-surgical otoplasty or not.
The Dr Lanzer Clinic always recommends getting a second opinion before getting any cosmetic surgery, this includes a non-surgical otoplasty. By getting a second opinion, you always make sure you are fully informed before going ahead with treatment and minimize the chance of unwanted surprises.

The procedure is not painful, as it can be done under a local anaesthetic or a general anaesthetic and sedation. Since there are no incisions made during the treatment, local anaesthetic is most common for these kinds of procedures. Of course, there can be some rare exceptions where general anaesthesia is used. For example, in patients who are extremely anxious about the procedure.
Patients can experience a little bit of discomfort after their procedure, which is comparable to the normal discomfort one would get after having sutures. Most patients can manage discomfort easily with some over-the-counter pain medication. In some cases, the cosmetic surgeon can prescribe additional medications to manage possible side effects.
Please keep in mind that patients must follow the recovery instructions provided by the Dr Lanzer Clinic before resuming normal activities as well. This may involve wearing a protective headband during your healing process. A protective headband can protect the treatment area against infection, but also helps the ears conform to their new position.
Otoplasty is a treatment that can be surgical or non-surgical, depending on factors such as the ear cartilage, asymmetry, ear lobes and the specific needs of the patient including medical conditions and medical history. Note: We encourage a second opinion. Ideally from a dermatologist. Please be aware different specialties have different approaches.
