Facelift Before And After Photos – How Facial Rejuvenation Can Restore Your Youthful Look
These facelift before and after photos feature a patient who had a combination of treatments. Dr Lanzer’s approach to facial rejuvenation often involves multiple treatments. His experience has been that rather than performing one major procedure such as a deep plane face lift or a brow lift, it is often better to perform multiple less invasive procedures. In this way, the patient gets an overall rejuvenation with more natural results. Patients then are often able to keep the fact that they have had cosmetic surgery a secret, and they look younger and more refreshed but not necessarily pulled or different.
What Problems Are Often Combined In Cosmetic Surgery On The Face?
A common combination would be addressing laxity of the skin, which can lead to drooping of the cheeks and skin textural changes. To correct the problem with cosmetic surgery, this may involve a mini facelift also known as a short scar lift or an S-lift.
During the mini facelift, the incision is kept tight and closed around the ear grooves. The skin and muscles are lifted, elevated, and removed. The excess skin is also removed. Once the skin is firmer and tighter – and the patient has a better jaw line and a more youthful shape to the face – then Dr Lanzer will address the skin texture.
According to Dr Lanzer, the best treatment for skin texture improvement is the contour erbium laser resurfacing. He has been using this laser for many years and finds that it safely vaporises the outer sun-damaged layers away. A new refreshed, tight, clean skin re-grows. It is ideal for fair skinned patients with fine lines as one would see from sun damage or excessive movement. Smoker’s lines are also addressed beautifully by this treatment.
Can Laser Resurfacing Be Done At The Same Time As The Mini Facelift?
Dr Lanzer can perform the laser resurfacing simultaneously with the mini facelift but will generally treat the outer cheeks more lightly. There are more gentle approaches to skin texture treatments, which include dermal fractionated lasers.
Fractionated treatments aim at producing multiple fine rejuvenating holes into the dermis which then tighten and heal. Fractionated treatments can be performed with CO2 lasers, erbium laser or the more recent radiofrequency lasers. With the latter, there is a combination of ablation to remove some of the outer skin as well as penetration to get down into the deep collagen and elastin layers.
Other combination treatments that could be considered are the non-surgical approaches. Many patients develop wrinkles and lines around their face because of excessive facial movement. The longstanding muscle relaxing injections, which are known as cosmetic injections, relax the muscles on the face and therefore reduce wrinkling. They are ideal once the skin surface has been improved in order to prevent wrinkling returning to the same degree. They can be used around the eyes, across the forehead, in between the eyes and the glabellar area. Occasionally they are used around the mouth and chin as well.
Another treatment that is very valuable is a filler procedure. Fillers are a space-occupying product that mainly contains water and hyaluronic acid. They elevate the dermal layer to give it a more youthful and cleaner appearance and a more curvature shape to the face.
A mini facelift may be combined with a volume improvement of the cheeks or some refining of the shape of the lip. Fillers can be done at the same time as surgery or any time at a later point. All injections of fillers are performed either by a doctor in Dr Lanzer’s centres or a nurse under his supervision. Dr Lanzer offers facial cosmetic injections in all his centres throughout Victoria and on Pitt Street in Sydney.
Other areas that can be combined and are often performed together is eyelid surgery and laser resurfacing. The eyes are a critical part of the face when one considers the aging process. Many patients complain that they appear tired. This is often due to fat in the lower lids that creates a curvy dark shadow or heaviness of the upper lids which obscures the skin of the upper lid.
Dr Lanzer has been using the CO2 laser since 1994. The laser works well for Dr Lanzer in that it closes blood vessels whilst it is sealing and rejuvenating. Dr Lanzer’s approach to the lower eyelid is not to cut the lower lid but rather to roll the lid forward and do a laser incision on the inside layer of the lower lid. This avoids having to use skin sutures on the outer surface.
Another combination that is often performed is liposculpture of the neck. Dr Lanzer performs this in nearly all of his mini facelifts or skin suture face lifting. The liposculpture removes the unwanted fat, but more importantly causes a skin tightening and retraction, so that the skin re-drapes along the lower edge of the chin and jaw line. Changing the shape of the face in this area has a very significant anti-aging effect. It has been Dr Lanzer’s experience that it lasts for a long time.
Other areas where combination treatments are relevant include the tummy tuck. Dr Lanzer combines a liposculpture using the tumescent technique with excision and cutting away of unwanted skin. By combining two separate procedures, it appears that there are less risks and that the advantages of each procedure can be applied together. Dr Lanzer does the cosmetic surgery of the tummy tuck as an outpatient. Patients are not routinely admitted to the hospital.
Other areas where Dr Lanzer does combination treatments are for acne and acne scarring. Acne can be treated with antibiotics for the inflammatory component. Creams and peels are invaluable to help improve the pores, follicles and scars.
Combining treatments in general is a good approach as one often finds that there are different processes happening at the same time. The doctor, by addressing each component will get the best and maximum result.
