How Can I Regain My Youthful Appearance? Top Tips from the Dr Lanzer Clinic!
The facelift is no longer taboo. An increasingly large number of people are choosing this treatment to regain their youthful appearance. While the treatment can contribute to regaining your radiant glow, there are other factors that could help you get your youthful glow back.
How Do I Protect My Skin Against Ageing?
Nowadays, it is all about looking after your skin. Whether it be preventing sun damage and premature aging or treating it. Gone are the days where people lay out in the sun all day in order to get a tan. We all know better now than to lay there and damage our skin.
Australia has a harsh sun and can cause damage to the skin cells resulting in leathery looking skin, wrinkles and worst of all, skin cancer. Naturally, it is vital to protect yourself against such damage.
Sun damage is one of the main contributors to premature ageing. Therefore, sun protection can certainly reduce some of those signs of ageing. While there are other factors that can contribute to premature ageing, sun damage is one of the main contributors that patients should be aware of.
How Can I Protect My Skin Against Sun Damage?
We are all more sun-conscious these days and many of us take more care in protecting ourselves from harmful UV rays. It is important to wear a sunscreen; however, many people do not know that it is actually beneficial to wear a sunscreen every day of the year; this is due to the high UV index that can be present any day of the year.
UV rays break down the collagen in the skin, which causes wrinkles and fine lines over the course of time. A minimum of SPF 30+ should be applied and always make sure your sunscreen has broad spectrum on the bottle; this means it both protects against UVA (aging) and UVB (burning rays). Some people think that they do not need to wear one as they are in a car or office all day, however UVA aging rays can penetrate through glass, whereas UVB rays cannot.
I find a lot of people wear sunscreen or makeup with sunscreen in it. They usually apply it on their face but always forget to put it on their neck and hands; this area is important to protect, as there is very delicate skin there, which usually ages first.
Can Sun Damage Be Reversed?
Prevention is always better than a cure when it comes to sun damage and aging. However, what if the damage is already done? Well do not worry, there are some treatments that can help.
We have a range of treatments to help with sun damage and premature aging; this ranges from lasers to stimulate collagen production, lasers to reduce pigmentation, injectables to often and plump out fine lines and wrinkles, and facials to help soften and smoothen the skin. It is best to see a dermatologist, as they have extensive training in skincare and some are specialists in anti-aging treatments.
Dr Lanzer had cosmetic training for over twenty-five years. He is an expert when it comes to anti-aging and can consult you by examining your skin and by recommending a treatment plan, which is especially designed for you and only you. No two skins are alike, Dr Lanzer knows this and this is why his expertise is so valuable when having an anti-aging consultation.
Whilst having treatment, it is also important to have a skincare regime. Cleansing the skin helps to remove dirt, debris and makeup on the skin, leaving it clean and ready to absorb nutrients from serums and moisturiser. Serums and Moisturisers help to hydrate the skin.
Some products containing Vitamin A and Niacinamide can also help stimulate collagen production in the skin. Exfoliating the skin once a week is also beneficial as it removes any dead skin cell build-up, which helps to clean out pores and allows for more product penetration. It is best to finish off with a sunscreen and if you are wearing makeup, apply it at least 5 minutes later so that the sunscreen has time to settle on the skin.
