Dr Lanzer will often recommend Smaller less invasive lift with a cut and excision of skin directly above the eyebrow.  There are many different facelift techniques that could rejuvenate your appearance. One of these facelift techniques is the forehead lift, a specific facelift method that focusses on the forehead, opposed to other parts of the face. To learn more about the forehead lift, please read our information below.

What Is the Forehead Lift?

A forehead lift is a special facelift technique used to address eyebrow position and a loose or wrinkled forehead. As we age, the position of our eyebrows may change. Our forehead can also develop deep creases and lines, which make your general appearance look tired, fatigued or unhappy.

To correct the problems that the natural ageing process can bring, the forehead lift enables a cosmetic surgeon to reshape the structures underneath the skin, for example the muscles. In addition to loosening the muscles, the cosmetic surgeon can also remove any excess fat that is causing your brows to hang.

The forehead lift can be combined with other facelift techniques, or acquired on its own to correct dominant signs of ageing on the forehead. However, the suitability of the treatment for patients can only be determined by a licensed cosmetic surgeon.

What Are the Different Techniques Used During a Forehead Lift?

Your cosmetic surgeon may use different techniques during a forehead lift. The technique used during your procedure is dependent on numerous factors, including your facial features and the aesthetic goals you wish to obtain from the procedure. One of these techniques could be used to execute your procedure, so it is important to fully understand these methods and the risks accompanying them.

The Endoscopic Forehead Lift

An endoscopic forehead lift is executed by making five small incisions along the hairline, which enables the cosmetic surgeon to keep scarring somewhat hidden after the procedure. The technique allows to surgeon to lift structures between your hairline and the eyebrows. Thus, the technique can tighten and smoothen the entire forehead while lifting the eyebrows at the same time.

The result of an endoscopic forehead lift is often a more ‘open’ appearance of the face. The procedure can also address the shape of the eyebrows and eyebrow asymmetry, so this procedure can also be an option for patients struggling with an eyebrow deformity that makes their eyebrows uneven.

Patients should expect some side-effects after their endoscopic forehead lift. Like other surgical procedures, the endoscopic forehead lift is usually accompanied by bruising and swelling, which dissipates over time. However, the patient will require some pain management medication after this procedure.

The Pretrichial Forehead Lift

A pretrichial forehead lift requires a long incision. The procedure is executed in patients who want to lift their eyebrows, but also shorten the forehead by removing skin and some of the underlying tissues. Thus, the result of this procedure is often a shorter forehead with a lower hairline.

The pretrichial forehead lift is also used to address asymmetrical eyebrows and abnormal eyebrow shapes. Like most other facelift procedures, the scar remains hidden by making an incision along the hairline, or in one of the natural folds of the forehead.

Patients will experience some side-effects after a pretrichial forehead lift, which usually includes swelling, bruising and discomfort. To reduce the swelling and bruising from this procedure, the surgeon may cover the treatment area in bandages. Pain medication may be given to reduce any discomfort resulting from the surgery.

The Gull Wing Forehead Lift

During a gull wing forehead lift, the surgeon removes a small section of skin and underlying tissue along the eyebrows. It is a procedure that is implemented for patients who do not want an incision made along the hairline.

The gull wing forehead lift is a technique used for patients who want to lift sagging eyebrows, while tightening and smoothing the forehead. In addition to that, the skin of the forehead is pulled down rather than up, which makes the procedure suitable for patients with a receding hairline or a high forehead.

Like other forehead lift procedures, patients will experience bruising, swelling and discomfort after the procedure. The bruising and swelling can be kept to a minimum by the application of the special bandage, which must be kept in place until it is removed by the cosmetic surgeon.

What Should I Consider When Choosing a Surgeon to Perform This?

A forehead lift requires a licensed and specialised surgeon, considering this procedure can be complex. Therefore, always check the credentials of your cosmetic surgeon before you book your initial appointment and look at some of the before and after photographs the surgeon has made available on his website.

To reduce the risk of complications or an unwanted aesthetic result, it is also recommended to choose a surgeon who is specialised in brow or forehead lifts; this means you will require a reconstructive facial surgeon who has performed surgery on the eyelids, orbit and adjacent structures in the past.

During your appointment with the cosmetic surgeon, do not hesitate to ask questions, no matter how trivial these questions may seem. When you want to obtain cosmetic surgery, you need to feel comfortable with the surgeon performing the procedure and must be able to communicate your wishes clearly. If you feel uncomfortable with your surgeon, or if you believe the surgeon is not listening to you, then it might be better to choose someone else.

The forehead lift may correct several aesthetic problems of the eye, brow and forehead areas. However, patients always need to be evaluated thoroughly before the procedure can take place, because there are certain factors that could affect the results you could obtain from the procedure. Therefore, always consider the advice of an experienced surgeon before you choose to have this procedure.
