Frequently Asked Questions
An ideal candidate for liposuction is?
The ideal candidate is any
women or man who has realistic expectations, is in decent health and is likely to be happy with the outcome of lipo. Laser liposuction can often provide considerable improvements. The ideal candidate should be at a balanced weight and within about 20% to 30% of your ideal weight. Discuss your goals with the surgeon so that you both can reach an understanding about what can be achieved.
Your skin is also a factor in whether you are a good candidate. You will need to have healthy skin with reasonable elasticity, so that your skin is able to bounce back to its former tightness once the fat tissue is removed. If you are having slim lipo over a larger area, excess skin removal may also be necessary. We will book you in for a reasonable consultation to discuss all the options with our Dermatological surgeon, Dr Lanzer. Dr Lanzer will take this time to understand your concerns, and talk to you about how he plans to proceed. If you have questions about the procedure, it can be addressed at this time.
Are Procedures Covered By Medicare?
Most liposculpture procedures are considered cosmetic surgery which means they are not covered by
Medicare. There are a few exceptions such as when lipo is performed followed by a formal excision such as in man boobs- gynaecomastia. About 50% of these cases need excision of the gland after liposuction. Also a lipo- tummy tuck called abdominoplasty may have an item if the patient meets certain criteria such as loss weight and rashes.
Other medical liposuction include buffalo hump of the neck , liposuction of lipoma or pseudolipoma after injury. Health insurance may also apply depending on the circumstances and type of policy. 457 visa holders may need to ensure they have
457 visa health cover and have held the policy for a duration where waiting periods are served.
What is the length of a liposuction procedure?
The typical patient will be in the surgical facility for 3 to 7 hours. This may vary for the
thigh face or
chin. Though, the actual liposuction surgery may only need 2 to 3 hours. Laser liposuction variables will depend on the size and mass of the patient, the number of parts being treated, and the type of anaesthesia being utilised.
Do I require having general anesthetic?
The procedure can be achieved when you are lightly asleep via general anesthetic or can be performed awake under local anesthesia. Dr Daniel Lanzer will talk to you about the two possibilities. If you choose to have the general anesthetic, you will meet Dr Lanzer’s anesthetist who has operated with him for over 15 years and performed thousands of treatments together.
You may require a general anesthetic depending on the intricacy of your procedure, or if you require further care to other areas of your body. Please enquire with Dr Lanzer whether a local anesthetic or general anesthetic will be suitable for you.
When can I resume normal activities?
We recommend resuming to normal activities like work within one week. Sometimes
recovery times can be as little as two days for when a patient can get back to work. However, you should not resume to extensive exercise for at least two weeks especially if the are worked on included the
leg.

The cost per treatment is significantly less than more invasive treatments. Slim lipo Melbourne costs will depend on the method and extent of surgery but may range from $2000.

What is Ultrasonic Liposuction?
Ultrasound liposuction is a method of softening the bodies fat with an ultrasound machine immediately before it is suctioned out via liposuction. Dr Lanzer was the first in Australia to be trained in the use of the ultrasound liposuction machine , called Vaser, to sculpture the fat in Vaser Hi Definition liposuction. This uses ultrasound to mould out fat that brings out the natural muscular and 6 pack appearance in men. Dr Lanzer also uses it in women for the athletic V shape.
