What Do I Need to Know About Abdominoplasty Liposuction?
Women often find following pregnancy or large weight loss, they are left with excessive loose skin, stretchmarks or deposits of fat around the abdomen area. These stubborn areas can be hard to eliminate with exercise and weight loss alone.
An abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) may be able to improve this, and assist to achieve a flatter, more toned abdomen. Also in achieving this, long term lifestyle changes are recommended in order to maintain a more more long term result from your abdominoplasty tummy tuck surgery.
If I have a tummy tuck, I will need to be in the hospital for 2 weeks.
The new method of tummy tuck called lipo tuck is now performed by Dr. Lanzer as a total out-patient procedure. This means that you go home that night. There are respite centres where one can go for the evening. However, there is no need for hospital admission. The procedure that has changed tummy tuck has been the tumescent method where Liposuction Melbourne is first performed before the removal of the skin.
The goal of the tummy tuck is to develop a smooth skin on the stomach. It is ideal for patients post pregnancy or who have lost a lot of weight where the skin is loose and sagging. In some patients there is also weakness and splitting of the underlying muscle and this will be corrected at the same time.
What’s new with Abdominoplasty Liposuction?
The new breakthrough has been the lipo method. There are 3 types of tummy tucks. One is where just the skin is removed. The other is where a mini tuck is performed just below the umbilicus. The final full tummy tuck which is called a full abdominoplasty is where the skin and fat are removed, the muscle is tightened and corrected, and the umbilicus (belly button) is replaced in its new position.
Where is the procedure performed?
Dr. Lanzer performs this procedure in his state-of-the-art fully accredited and registered day surgery centre in Melbourne. Dr. Lanzer’s clinic has full ISO and the latest 10 standards of registration by the health department. He was one of the first if not the first clinic in Australia that is fully designated for cosmetic surgery to receive accreditation.

How is Abdominoplasty Liposuction performed?
The procedure is performed by using the tumescent liposuction Melbourne technique to remove all the unwanted fat. Often other areas are treated at the same time such as the flanks and hips. Once that has been performed, the excess skin is cut and removed by placing a long incision along the bikini line. Usually this is about 6-7 cm from the groin. Multiple layers of sutures are used to close the stomach in order to give it strength. A drain tube is left in place for about 7 days.
The goal of a tummy tuck is to remove all the loose skin and often a lot of the stretch marks so that the skin is flat and tight. There is a scar along the lower abdomen.
Healing: What is the healing time for a tummy tuck?
Generally, we advise patients not to do anything strenuous for 3 weeks. The stitches start to dissolve after the first 1 or 2 weeks. A garment is used as a compression for the first 2 weeks as well.
Options: What are the options?
Some patients do not need tummy tuck but can get away with the liposculpture superficial method which causes removal of fat and also skin tightening. If a patient is very overweight then they first need to look at weight loss and this may be done with lap-banding or intense dieting.
Commonly Asked Abdominoplasty Liposuction Questions
How do I decide if I need a tummy tuck or a liposuction?
This is often a difficult question and is something that Dr. Lanzer will help advise you on. There are advantages and disadvantages with both procedure and every procedure has a risk. Tummy tuck’s risks are higher than liposuction Melbourne and this needs to be taken into account. The skin will be flatter and tighter but there will be a scar.
Points to note
Tummy tuck is a component of the makeover that patients have after pregnancy. Pregnancy causes stretching not only of the skin and fat but also of the underlying muscle. These all need to be addressed with tummy tuck.
Who has a tummy tuck?
Tummy tuck can be performed at all ages. We have even performed it on people in their 20’s following pregnancy, in young men, and in older people, ideally, on a patient who is within 20-30 kg of his desired weight.
Dr. Lanzer was featured in 20014 on Today Tonight with a gentleman who lost 200 kilos. Following that weight loss, Dr. Lanzer performed a very large tummy tuck removal of over a meter’s width of skin and fat with the tummy tuck method.
