Case Study: Breast Reduction Before And After Photographs
The breast reduction surgery before and after photos displayed on this page were obtained from a real patient of Dr Lanzer. The photographs clearly display the result of the surgery this patient obtained.
Before elaborating on this patient’s procedure, it is important for prospective patients to understand that our before and after photographs of the reduction mammoplasty are examples. Every patient is unique, so the results one can expect from cosmetic surgery will be different too.

What Is A Breast Reduction Procedure?
A breast reduction is a surgical procedure that removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin in one procedure. This surgery aims to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body. The surgery may be performed to relieve the discomfort and pain associated with overly large breasts; this includes neck and shoulder pain. This surgery is also referred to as the reduction mammoplasty.
How Does A Patient Know Breast Reduction Liposuction Is A Suitable Procedure For Them?
Dr Lanzer likes to assess radiological how much fat is in the breast, so he can predict volume reduction. Some breasts are very “fatty”; this means that the majority of the heavy breasts are made up of just fat. It also means that a lot of fat can be removed and a major reduction in size and weight is possible. In such a situation, going from an E size or DD to a C is realistic.
Other women have more fibrous breast tissue. Typically, young women in their teens who have never had children are more likely to have more fibrous and glandular tissue compared to fatty tissue.
Most breasts are not the same in size and shape; in fact, most women have one breast which is slightly bigger than the other. Dr Lanzer measures how much fat is taken from each breast and although he will try to create more evenness, often if there is an asymmetry prior to surgery, it will remain post-surgery.
Dr Lanzer sees fantastic results from breast liposuction. Additional factors such as tissue and skin contraction and the use of ultrasound can also have an impact on the result obtained from the procedure.
Ultrasound is also used as a device to melt fat. The Vaser is such a device used in Hi Definition Liposculpture, as is the Ulthera, which is used for face lifting in a non-surgical way. Ultrasound can also be used for deep bruising after liposuction and is generally started a few weeks post-procedure. It is often available at physiotherapists or provided by Dr Lanzer’s staff in the Medi-Day Spa.
Having breasts that are too heavy or big could cause some physical discomfort, so the breast reduction could be a viable procedure in these cases. However, many patients have different ideas about breast reduction and the changes that could be implemented with this procedure. To give patients a good insight in the treatment and the possibilities of the treatment, we have created an overview of before and after photographs taken from patients who had a breast reduction procedure. Naturally, there photographs are a guideline, since results obtained from this procedure are unique to the patient.

We aim to create the safest and most enjoyable experience for our patients and this standard of the NSQHS ensures that we are monitoring all areas to ensure this occurs.
If you have concerns about the results of your future breast reduction procedure, it is essential to speak to your cosmetic surgeon before you have your breast reduction. The surgeon can provide you with more details regarding the results you could obtain, as well as more information about the procedure itself. During your consultation with your surgeon, you will also receive information about the aftercare, which is also important, since improper aftercare could have a negative influence on the results obtained from the procedure. If you have any questions left after a consultation, or realise you’ve forgotten to ask something important during your consultation, be sure to contact the Dr Lanzer Clinic for more info.
How Should I Interpret The Before And After Photographs of Breast Reductions?
The before and after photographs at the Dr Lanzer Clinic should only be an example and can therefore not be considered as the results you could get from the procedure. Even though they could be an indication of the results that could be achieved through breast reduction, every patient is unique and will therefore experience unique results.
To get a clearer estimate of the results you may obtain after your procedure, it is best to speak to Dr Lanzer during your consultation. During this consultation, Dr Lanzer will examine the area to determine how the procedure will affect the overall aesthetics of the breasts.
Please note that before and after photographs of nipple and areola reductions are also available at The Dr Lanzer Clinic. We mention this procedure her as well, since there are some cases where patients combine the breast reduction with a nipple and areola reduction to restore the aesthetic of the breasts.
