Case Study 10: Breast Reduction Surgery At The Dr Lanzer Clinic
This is a pre and post photograph of a lady who has undergone breast reduction surgery in her 20’s with liposculpture alone.
If you are concerned about the way you appear or are thinking about cosmetic treatments to boost your confidence, find a good cosmetic surgeon who will listen to your needs. You may want to ask your doctor for advice or a suitable and reputable doctor or hospital where breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty can be performed.
What Should I Ask During My Initial Cosmetic Surgery Consultation?
At your first consultation, you may want to ask the surgeon about their training and experience. Dr Lanzer can answer any questions or concerns about breast reductions or any other treatments you may consider.
At What Age Can One Have Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction is possible at all ages and is even occasionally performed in the teenage years if the patient suffers from very large breasts. The restriction is that younger patients tend to have more breast tissue than fat and therefore they may not be able to get as much reduction as compared to someone who is older.
When there is a lot of breast tissue and skin on heavy breasts, the surgeon may choose reduction mammoplasty, this is surgery where the surgeon removes excess breast tissue and skin to change the shape and size of the breasts. He could also move the nipple and areola to ensure it is proportionate with the new breast size. This particular form of breast reduction will leave scarring. Dr a Lanzer technique of breast reduction with liposuction, is performed without cutting and therefore no scarring.
How Much Fat Is Removed From The Breasts With Liposuction?
Generally, we remove between 400 -700 ml of fat. I have removed up to two litres of fat from each breast during a surgical procedure. Ultimately, it depends on the size of the breast and the texture including if it is made up of mostly fat.
How Does One Decide If One Needs Breast Reduction With Liposuction Or Mammoplasty Reduction?
In my practice we try and always perform the breast reduction through liposuction first, as this has the least or no scarring. Mammoplasty surgery involves cutting around the entire nipple and a vertical scar from the nipple down to the fold below the breast and then a further scar across that fold. The chest is not a good area of healing and scars can sometimes be prominent. If patients have very large, drooping or heavy breasts, then they may have no choice and will have to go on to mammoplasty surgery.
What Is A Breast Lift?
The breast lift is actually replacing and moving the areola and nipple complex higher and then removing the excessive loose skin from the lower part of the breast. Breast lifts are performed if patients have a loose and droopy, sagging breast and who do not necessarily want an enlargement or reduction of the breast. Dr Lanzer was trained in the IDEAL’s first staple method by Dr Ted Eisenberg in Philadelphia. With this method, staples are initially used to predict how much skin could be removed.
Can Breast Implants Be Implemented At The Same Time As A Breast Lift?
Yes, they can be performed together. However, the procedure is more complicated, and this is something you would have to discuss with the doctor.
Can I Breastfeed After Undergoing Breast Reduction?
All surgery to the breast can affect breast feeding. Dr Lanzer’s experience with breast reduction has been that patients have been able to breastfeed following surgery. However, one must keep in mind that many patients with large breasts have difficulty breast feeding even if they do not have surgery of the breast, so there is absolutely no guarantee that one can breastfeed. With liposuction, there is no cutting of the glands under the skin, so there is a fair chance that the glands should be still able to work once the patient gets pregnant.
How Many Sizes Smaller Will My Breasts Become Following Liposculpture Of The Breasts?
There is no way of predicting the exact reduction. It all depends on your starting size and how much fat you have in the breast. Generally speaking, we aim to get to a size C. However, there is such a variation in how people measure and buy bras that one can never really talk about bra sizes in individual cases.
Will My Breasts Look Better In A Bra?
Generally speaking, the bra provides support for the breast, irrespective of the size. Whether this means it will look better, will be patient dependent. This is something that people will need to take into consideration.
We must mention that there can be some physical benefits for some patients. When someone has heavy breasts, it could lead to physical pain such as neck and shoulder pain, headaches, and even backpain; these can also be reasons for patients to obtain the surgery.
