Case Study 9: The Female Breast Reduction Surgery
Are your breasts weighing you down? Considering breast reduction with liposuction or reduction mammoplasty? Read some of our essential information on breast reductions below for additional insights.
Is There A Difference In Operating On Fair-Skinned Patients And Those With Dark Skin?
The main issue is that dark-skinned patients have a tendency for pigmentation; this means that scars will often go brown and have a long period of redness. It is therefore always advisable to try and perform procedures that have smaller incisions and scars such as micro tucks, micro facelift and liposuction through small nicks.
In the photographs seen, this female patient has undergone a significant breast reduction through liposuction alone and therefore there are no obvious scars present. The liposuction was also done on her body which has caused excellent contraction.
How Is It Possible To Get So Much Elevation And Contraction With Just Liposuction?
These photographs do demonstrate something that we repeat often to patients, more specifically that liposuction alone can cause a significant amount of tightening, contraction, and elevation. We see it typically on the breasts as in this case where the breasts are drooping and hanging. Following surgery, they have become smaller, tighter, and elevated. The main reason for the elevation is the skin contraction and also due to the breasts being lighter from the removal of the fat (liposuction) as they do not seem to hang down.
Naturally, there are some cases where the patient has too much breast tissue and too little fat. In these cases, the Dermatologist surgeon may choose reduction mammoplasty, where he removes excess breast tissue and skin. During this procedure, he may also move the nipple and areola, which can create an additional lifting effect.
What Are The Typical Benefits Of Having Breast Reduction?
The main benefit of breast reduction is that we see that patients often struggle with back, neck and shoulder pain. Once the large breasts become lighter and softer, this pain can go away.
How Long Does It Take Until The Pain Goes Away After This Cosmetic Surgery?
Quite amazingly, patients often report to me that the pain of heavy breasts goes away almost immediately, and this may mean an end to years of suffering.
The reduction in physical discomfort can be attributed to the alteration in size and shape of the breasts after this surgical procedure. Naturally, undergoing breast reduction is therefore an option for patients who suffer from pain related to their breast size.
Can Breast Reduction Be Performed Under Local Anaesthetic?
Yes, patients do not need to be asleep for breast reduction using tumescent liposuction. It is the patient’s choice as to which way it is done ultimately, but both options are available.
Naturally, the more complex a procedure is, the more likely general anaesthetic might be used; this is usually for the own patient’s comfort as more complex procedures can take more time.
Additional information regarding anaesthetic is always provided at our clinic before your procedure takes place. If you have any questions or concerns about this, do not hesitate to ask a member of our team.
