Liposuction Breast Reduction Bilateral
Breast reduction is usually performed on both breasts which is a Liposuction Breast Reduction Bilateral approach to the body. However, very often the two sides are not equally bilateral; one breast may be larger than the other. On some occasions we perform breast reduction just on one side or even an implant on one side and reduction on the other side.
WHY IS IT THAT THE BILATERAL SIDES ARE NOT THE SAME?
It is interesting that our bodies are not symmetrical. I once heard a plastic surgeon describing it that our 2 sides are sisters and not twins. This does not refer just to the breasts regarding breast reduction with liposuction but also to other areas of the body just as in laser blepharoplasty, face lift or even general body liposuction. In nearly all of these procedures we treat bilateral sides; however, one side may be bigger or different than the other. One of the classic photos that I show patients is Marilyn Monroe. She of course is very beautiful. Yet, if one splits her face and puts the left together with the left side and the right together with the right side, her entire face is changed.
When performing Liposuction Breast Reduction Bilateral it is important to assess the symmetry of the breasts. Sometimes there will be a lot of fat out on the 2 sides. In this situation we would approach the breast in a bilateral fashion by removing fat along both outer sides of the breast. This actually helps give the breast shape. Other times the breast will be drooping in which case surgical lift would be required.
WHAT IS THE LIPOSUCTION METHOD OF BREAST REDUCTION?
Liposuction involves suctioning fat through small incisions with an instrument called a canula is attached via a suction hose to a suction machine. By moving the arm back and fort in repetitive fashion fat is able to be removed. When removing fat from the breasts it involves suctioning of multiple different layers in levels in a bilateral fashion to gradually reduce the fat plane by plane. The natural result is that the breast becomes smaller, tighter, contracted and elevated.
HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY FROM THE BREAST REDUCTION WITH LIPOSUCTION METHOD ( Liposuction Breast Reduction Bilateral ) ?
Most patients can actually get back to work in a few days. Generally speaking, we advise one week off from work and 2 weeks off from strenuous exercise. As there is no cutting and removal of skin the recovery is a lot quicker and the patients do not have to be so careful with post-operative effort as one would be if we were doing a breast implant or breast lift where there are longer scars.
WHAT IS THE MAIN REASON THAT PEOPLE PRESENT FOR BREAST REDUCTION VIA LIPOSUCTION?
The main reason for breast reduction is for pain due to the weight of the breasts. By performing the liposuction many hundreds of milliliters of fat are removed. The average amount of fat that would be removed would be 500 mL. However, we will sometime remove up to 1.5 liters of fat from each breast. Fat has a weight. By removing the fat from the breasts the breasts become lighter. This means that there is less pressure on the chest, back, and neck. Large breasts also affect the posture of the body.
Some women also have Liposuction Breast Reduction Bilateral for the weight which makes dents from the bra straps. Occasionally it is more for just a cosmetic reason or self consciousness from having large breasts. Some women find it difficult to exercise because of the breasts. Occasionally, women have problems with rashes under the breasts due to maceration and sweating.
WHAT IS THE OLDEST PATIENT WITH BREAST REDUCTION VIA LIPOSUCTION THAT YOU HAVE PERFORMED, DR. LANZER?
I performed a breast reduction in 80-year-old patients and with good results. Interestingly, I do not normally consider age a major factor when looking at cosmetic surgery. Today, the critical issue is how well the patient is and what is really bothering her. procedures are much safer and simpler and can be performed under local anesthetic and some patients in their elderly years are very healthy and well and are also entitled to want to feel better about their body’s and face.
CAN ONE HAVE OTHER COSMETIC SURGERY THE SAME TIME AS A BREAST REDUCTION?
Liposuction will often be performed in other areas of the body at the same time as the liposuction breast reduction. I have also performed body liposuction with facial and cosmetic surgery at the same time called the Liposuction Breast Reduction Bilateral.
IN WHICH CLINICS IS THE BREAST REDUCTION PERFORMED?
I will perform the breast reduction via liposuction technique both in our Sydney clinic and Melbourne. It can be performed under local anesthetic with some intramuscular analgesics or whilst the patients is asleep as a general anesthetic in our day surgery center.
WHEN DID DR. LANZER START PERFORMING BREAST REDUCTION THROUGH LIPOSUCTION METHOD?
Liposuction underwent a dramatic change in 1992 with the development of the tumescent technique. For the first 10 years it was used all over the body and gradually was used in males for breast reduction and mega liposuction. In the year 2000 the idea of applying this method for the breasts was thought of. Dr. Lanzer performed the very first large clinical study of 250 patients and was able to demonstrate a consistent predictable result with liposuction alone.
HOW DOES ONE TELL IF A BREAST IS APPROPRIATE FOR BREAST REDUCTION USING THE LIPOSUCTION METHOD?
Dr. Lanzer will first palpate the breasts and he can tell if the breast is soft or if it is going to be hard with more breast tissue and glands rather than fat. The patient’s age is also a determining factor with fat developing as people get older. Sometime we find that after pregnancy there is more fat. An ultrasound or mammogram x-ray study can also help determine how much fat is present.
ARE BOTH BREASTS ALWAYS BILATERALLY THE SAME?
Sometimes one breast will be more fatty than the other but often the breasts are the same.
HAVING A FAMILY HISTORY OR PERSONAL HISTORY OF BREAST CANCER, WILL THAT AFFECT BREAST REDUCTION USING LIPOSUCTION?
Dr. Lanzer probably would not recommend liposuction if a person has had breast cancer previously. If there is a family history, liposuction can be performed but it would be a good idea to discuss the matter with a breast surgeon. Dr. Lanzer can arrange that referral.
