Liposuction Breast Reduction Bilateral
Breast reduction is usually performed on both breasts; this usually occurs with a liposuction breast reduction (bilateral) method. However, very often the two sides are not equally bilateral; one breast may be larger than the other. So, on some occasions, we perform breast reduction just on one side. It is also possible to put an implant on one side and perform a reduction on the other side.

Why Is It That the Bilateral Sides Are Not the Same?
It is interesting that our bodies are not symmetrical. A certain cosmetic surgeon even describing the two parts of our bodies as sisters, not twins. This does not refer just to the breasts regarding breast reduction, but also to other areas of the body. Therefore, other procedures such as laser blepharoplasty, facelift, and body liposuction will be influenced by this fact.
In almost all cosmetic surgery procedure, we treat bilateral sides; however, one side may be bigger or different than the other. One of the classic photos that Dr Lanzer shows patients to clarify this phenomenon is a picture of Marilyn Monroe. She of course is very beautiful. Yet, if one splits her face and puts the left together with the left side, and the right together with the right side, her entire face is changed.
When performing breast reduction through liposuction (bilateral), it is important to assess the symmetry of the breasts. Sometimes, there will be a lot of fat out on the two sides. In this situation, we would approach the breast in a bilateral fashion by removing fat along both outer sides of the breast; this helps give the breast shape. Other times, the breast will be drooping, in which case surgical lift would be required.
What Is the Liposuction Method Used During Breast Reduction?
Liposuction involves the removal of fat through small incisions with an instrument called a canula; this cannula is attached via a suction hose to a suction machine. By moving the arm back and forth in repetitive fashion, fat can be removed. When removing fat from the breasts, it involves suctioning of multiple different layers in levels in a bilateral fashion; this to gradually reduce the fat plane by plane. The natural result is that the breast becomes smaller, tighter, more contracted, and elevated.
How Long Is the Recovery from the Breast Reduction with Liposuction Method (Bilateral)?
Most patients can get back to work in a few days. We advise one week off from work, but we also advise to refrain from strenuous exercise for at least two weeks after the procedure.
What Is the Main Reason People Present for Breast Reduction with Liposuction?
The main reason for breast reduction is for pain due to the weight of the breasts. By performing the liposuction, many hundreds of millilitres of fat are removed. The average amount of fat that is removed is usually 500 millilitres. However, we will sometimes remove up to 1.5 litres of fat from each breast. Fat has a weight. By removing the fat from the breasts, the breasts become lighter. This means that there is less pressure on the chest, back, and neck.
Large breasts also affect the posture of the body, which is another reason patients list as their reason for choosing a breast reduction with liposuction. Since this procedure removes fat and subsequently some weight from the breasts, it could have a positive influence on the posture of the patient.
Some women also have a liposuction breast reduction (bilateral) to reduce the overall weight of the breasts, which causes dents from the bra straps. Occasionally, it is more for just a cosmetic reason or self-consciousness from having large breasts. Some women can find it difficult to exercise because of the size of the breasts. There are also women who experience problems such as rashes under the breasts due to maceration and sweating.
What Is the Age of the Oldest Patient Who Had a Liposuction Breast Reduction at the Dr Lanzer Clinic?
Dr Lanzer performed a breast reduction in 80-year-old patients and with good results. Dr Lanzer does not normally consider age a major factor when looking at cosmetic surgery. Today, the critical issue is how well the patient is and what is really bothering her. Procedures are much safer and simpler, and can be performed under local anaesthetic. Some patients in their elderly years are very healthy and well, and are also entitled to want to feel better about their body and face.
Can Someone Have Other Cosmetic Surgery While Having a Breast Reduction
Liposuction will often be performed in other areas of the body at the same time as the liposuction breast reduction. Dr Lanzer has also performed body liposuction with facial liposuction.
The suitability of combining certain procedures will be determined by Dr Lanzer during your consultation. If you are considering combining certain procedures, please speak to Dr Lanzer during your consultation with him.
Where Can Breast Reduction Surgery Be Performed?
Dr Lanzer performs the breast reduction via liposuction technique both in the Sydney and Melbourne clinic. It can be performed under local anaesthetic with some intramuscular analgesics, or whilst the patients is asleep under a general anaesthetic in our day surgery centre.
When Did Dr Lanzer Start Performing Breast Reduction Through Liposuction?
Liposuction underwent a dramatic change in 1992 with the development of the tumescent technique. For the first 10 years, it was used all over the body and gradually was used in males for breast reduction and mega liposuction.
In the year 2000, the idea of applying this method for the breasts was thought of. Dr Lanzer performed the very first large clinical study of 250 patients and was able to demonstrate a consistent predictable result with liposuction alone.
How Does One Know If a Breast Is Suitable for Liposuction Breast Reduction Bilateral?
Dr Lanzer will first palpate the breasts. From this examination, he can tell if the breast is soft, or if it is going to be hard with more breast tissue and glands rather than fat. The patient’s age is also a determining factor, since fat develops as people get older. Sometimes, we find that there is a significant amount of added fat after a pregnancy. An ultrasound or mammogram x-ray study can also help determine how much fat is present.
Are Both Breasts Always Bilaterally the Same?
Sometimes, one breast will contain more fat than the other, but often the breasts are the same.
Can I Still Acquire Liposuction Breast Reduction with a Family History or Personal History of Breast Cancer?
Dr Lanzer probably would not recommend liposuction if a person has had breast cancer previously. If there is a family history, liposuction can be performed, but it would be a good idea to discuss the matter with a breast surgeon. Dr Lanzer can arrange that referral.
