What is Liposculpture
What is Liposculpture
Liposculpture is a term that is not that known amongst patients, since many of them are more familiar with the term liposuction. Still, liposculpture is a type of liposuction procedure, so many patients find that they are already familiar with it after explaining this in our clinic. How Does Liposculpture Work and How Is It Different from Liposuction?
During a liposuction procedure, a cosmetic surgery will remove fat from the body through suction. Even though this principle is similar with liposculpture, the cosmetic surgery will be focussed on sculpting away the fat, opposed to just sucking it out. Therefore, you could consider liposculpture as an advancement in liposuction. In addition to that, liposculpture is often referred to as body contouring. It is often obtained for areas that can be prone to excess fat and stubborn fat deposits; this includes but is not limited to love handles, tummy, upper arms, outer thighs, and inner thighs. However, other areas of the body are possible too, as stubborn pockets of fat can appear in specific areas for some patients.
Liposculpture is a surgical procedure that is executed with tumescent fluid, which makes the body tissues (fat cells) become solid and firm. The tumescent solution also makes body tissues expand; this makes the sculpting process easier for the cosmetic surgery. The tumescent fluid also functions as a local anaesthetic, making the area number and reducing the chance of bleeding. So, tumescent fluid can also cause a reduction in bruising. That being said, most patients will still experience bruising and swelling after tumescent liposculpture.
When the fat is prepared, Dr Lanzer will insert a cannula through a small nick on the treatment area. The cannula will be attached to a suction device, which will suction the fat out. Of course, to sculpt the area, Dr Lanzer must make certain movements with the cannula during the procedure.

How Can Dr Lanzer Sculpt the Body with Liposculpture?
During liposculpture, Dr Lanzer will focus on removing fat layers. The way to sculpture the body is to pass the cannula at multiple layers, starting deep and moving superficially. It also requires changing the angle and the direction of the cannula at every few passes. By repeating this process from multiple directions, the surgeon can evenly deflate and shape the removal of fat to the level which he desires.
Can There Be Unwanted Complications from Liposculpture?
One of the worst things that could happen with liposculpture is taking too much fat from the treatment area and leaving a depression. Because the fat that is removed is replaced by fibrosis and healing, it would be very hard to re-correct an over liposuction area. Therefore, the experience of your surgeon is vital to avoid such problems.
Dr Lanzer recently saw a patient who had a liposculpture in Thailand. The patient had liposuction, but the procedure left her with two large concave curvatures on the inner thighs; this was caused by removing too much fat during the procedure.
A surgeon who performs liposculpture must assess how much fat to remove. One of the critical things in making that assessment is to understand each area. Every area of the body can tolerate a certain amount of fat removal. The second thing is, there must be an appreciation of the surrounding skin. There must be a certain harmony to achieve the desired results.
