Can Fat Provide Benefits? Find Out More in This Face Fat Transfer Case Study!
Fat has gotten a bad name over the years. It is often associated with overweight and health risks, so the only cosmetic procedure many people think about when it concerns fat is liposuction. However, liposuction is not the only cosmetic procedure where fat plays an important role, because the fat transfer is an anti-ageing treatment that uses fat to give patients a more youthful appearance. To find out more about this procedure, and its benefits, please read our case study below.
What Is a Face Fat Transfer?
The face fat transfer, also referred to as fat grafting or fat injections, is closely connected to liposuction. What basically happens during such a procedure is the removal of fat from one area of the body, for example through liposuction, is then reinjected into certain parts of the body for a rejuvenating effect.
As we age, certain parts of our body will start to lose volume. This is especially noticeable in areas such as the face, hands, breast or buttocks. Thanks to liposuction, surgeons are able to use the fat obtained during such a procedure to create a more youthful appearance.
How Is the Fat Prepared?
Fat obtained through liposuction is not immediately injected back into the patient, since this may cause some serious health and hygiene concerns. Before the fat can be used, it needs to go through a preparation process. The preparation of the fat is executed by either a centrifuge or a dedicated filtration process. The centrifuge will spin the fat, making it suitable for injection, while the filtration process will remove any impurities present in the fat. When the fat has gone through the purification and preparation process, it can be used by Dr Lanzer for the face fat transfer.
How Is a Face Fat Transfer Executed?
To execute a face fat transfer, Dr Lanzer will insert a needle or cannula in the incision of the treatment area. Then, Dr Lanzer carefully adds a line of fatty tissue parcels to the treatment area. The duration of the procedure does depend on the area that needs to be treated. In some cases, multiple transfers may be necessary.
Which Patients Are Good Candidates for a Fat Transfer?
There are many patients who could find a fat transfer beneficial. The treatment is especially beneficial for patients with a facial area that appears creased and sunken, but also for those who wish to get more more long term results than the results provided by temporary dermal fillers.
Fat transfer can also be used to improve the contours of the body and reduce the appearance of scars. It is also an option for body depressions and the rejuvenation of the hands. Fat transfer is also commonly used during breast reconstruction, since the obtained fat can be used to fill in those contour irregularities or visible signs of breast implants.
Is the Fat Transfer More Beneficial Than Dermal Fillers?
Both treatments have their own set of benefits, so it usually comes down to the recommendation of Dr Lanzer. While fat transfer greatly reduces the chances of allergic reactions, last longer and are less invasive, dermal fillers are less expensive and can be more beneficial for augmentations, since augmentation with fat transfer may need multiple sessions. That being said, the safer choice is definitely the fat transfer for most patients.
What Is the Facial Fat Transfer?
The facial fat transfer is a procedure where Dr Lanzer will fill any volume-deficient areas in the face. These areas could be laugh lines, crow’s feet and other facial creases.
The fat used during this procedure can be obtained from the abdomen, thighs or other areas. Of course, the fat obtained from liposuction will first be treated in a special facility before it is reintroduced in the body.
How Is Fat Transfer Used During Breast Augmentation?
Fat transfers can also be used when a patient wants to increase their breast size, considering the desired breast size is quite modest compared to the original breast size. Before a patient will be considered for breast augmentation through fat transfer, the patient must have breasts with a good shape and skin tone.
Patients with a poor skin tone and sagging breast will not be good candidates for a breast augmentation through fat transfer. This is also the case for patients who would like to increase their breast size by a considerable amount.
Can Fat Transfer Be Used to Improve the Breast Shape?
In some cases, fat transfer can be used to improve the shape of the breasts, mainly during a breast implant procedure. Some patients may encounter breast irregularities after obtaining their implants. In these cases, a patient could benefit the most from filling those irregularities by fat transfer.
Is Fat Transfer an Option for Breast Reconstruction?
Patients suffering from breast defects after a lumpectomy could benefit from a fat transfer procedure. Fat transfer can also be a treatment after a mastectomy, although such procedures may take a considerable amount of time, approximately two to four hours of fat grafting procedures. That being said, fat transfers are generally less invasive than the alternatives.
Can Fat Transfer Be an Option for Buttock Augmentation?
The fat transfer procedure is commonly used for buttock augmentation, more specifically for the Brazilian butt lift. The Brazilian butt lift is executed to obtain more voluminous buttocks through fat transfer, which eliminates the need for an implant.
In most cases, buttock augmentation is executed through a combination of liposuction and fat transfer. Thanks to the combination of these two treatments, patients may be able to obtain their desired buttocks shape.
What Is Fat Transfer for Hand Rejuvenation?
Fat transfer is a popular choice for patients who want to rejuvenate their hands. During this procedure, Dr Lanzer will use the obtained fat to plump up wrinkled areas. By executing the rejuvenation treatment with a fat transfer, Dr Lanzer can also reduce the appearance of underlying vessels and tendons. This will greatly improve the quality of skin, as well as make the hands appear considerably younger.
