Dr Lanzer was one of the first to use laser liposuction therapy in cosmetic surgery. He has performed in 10,000+ laser liposuction procedures for men & women. He was initially featured on national television after helping to convene the first conferences on both Tumescent Liposuction and Cosmetic laser therapy. Lasers and related devices work to help soften and prepare the fat before its removal.
All devices that do this need special care as they can burn the skin if not used appropriately. Dr Lanzer uses the Vaser device and this also can soften the fat. Some practitioners offer laser liposuction or laser lipolysisas a stand-alone procedure without the subsequent suction of fat from the body. Dr Lanzer has found that this gives very subtle results and it is always worthwhile doing the suction even with a microcannulae.
There are other non-surgical devices that Dr Lanzer offers to help melt and soften fat. These include VelaShape and Ultrashape. Ultrasound and radio-frequency like laser can also be used to break down fat cells selectively.
Dr Lanzer will offer laser liposuction or Vaser if he wants to enhance the skin contraction. He has a special method he likes to use to get the skin to retract . View the pre and post photographs to get an understanding of how much the skin can contact and tighten without cutting surgery.
Dr Lanzer mostly operates in Melbourne in his own fully dedicated Cosmetic Day Surgery centre. He finds that the costs of Laser Liposuction and other highly specific devices make it hard to find a suitable operating room externally.
The main advantage now is that all procedures are in house and there are no bowel surgery operations that introduces unwanted bacteria to a hospital. Patients fly for Laser and Vaser Liposuction from Sydney, Perth, Queensland and other states. Usually the stay is just 1-2 days. Dr Lanzer can consult on the subsequent follow- up and recovery via the internet.
How is the procedure preformed?
The laser liposculpture commences with the tumescent liposuction method. The tumescent numbs and prepares the fat and helps close up the blood vessels. Then, the laser is passed through the fatty layers to help dissolve and soften the fat. Following this, the final and 3rd stage is the suction and removal of the damaged and loosened fat cells.
WILL I NEED TO WEAR A GARMENT WITH LASER LIPOSUCTION?
Yes. The garment will help contraction and tighten the skin following laser removal and laser treatment of the fat cells.
Can laser liposculpture be performed on large areas of the body?
Generally speaking, the laser is most effective for small areas such as the neck or the arms. Once treating large areas, the laser has little to add and would have the extra danger related to the heating of the tissue.
What are the alternatives to laser liposculpture?
There are a number of other devices that we use that helps soften the fat and are particularly helpful in people with fibrous fat such as men and as one sees on the back and hips. The device that I find very effective is the MicroAire. This is a vibrating cannula that shakes in the fat and loosens up the fat cell bonds. It makes it much easier for the surgeon to remove the fat and the fat flows out in an easier way. It is also very effective in breast reduction through liposuction. The breast contains more fibrous tissue and anything that makes the movement easier is more effective.
Would one use the laser liposuction on breasts?
I do not believe that it is a good idea to use the laser on the breast. Since there is always the risk that one time a person may develop breast cancer, one does not know the effect of heating cells in the breast tissue.
Discover Laser Liposuction Advantages!
An increasingly large amount of patients now opt for Laser liposuction procedures. In our clinic, we have a more long term nutritional dietitian, Mark Surdit, who advises patients on how to get the best weight loss reduction in conjunction with the liposuction.

Will laser liposuction help with weight reduction?
No. Generally, liposuction, no matter which form, will not help with weight reduction. Liposuction generally can give a patient a kick-start by making the areas lighter and making the areas less fatty so that patient can exercise more easily. I do find that a lot of patients do feel inspired after liposuction and can diet and exercise better.
What are the risks associated with laser liposuction?
The laser heats the fat and therefore, there is a risk of burn. If the laser beam is passed too close to the skin, a burn could occur which may just present as an area of pigmentation. If it is a stronger burn, there would be skin loss which would then require a week to heal and then there may be red scarring or thickening of the skin.
How does the laser liposuction differ from laser used on the face for rejuvenation?
There are many different types of lasers. Some lasers melt tissue such as the laser for liposuction and others vaporise tissue such as laser erbium resurfacing which we use for wrinkles and acne scarring. Lasers can also be used in a cutting mode. This is most commonly done for laser blepharoplasty to get the rejuvenation around the eyes.
What is the factor that is most important in getting the best results with liposculpture?
Ultimately, the actual device that one uses is not the critical point in the final result. The most important factors are first of all to use the tumescent liposuction method which was developed by an American dermatologist and which we brought to Australia in 1992. This improves the safety and prepares the fat.
The second factor which is probably the most important is the skill of the liposuction surgeon. Liposuction is a manual procedure where fat is removed through a back and forth movement of the arm. The surgeon needs to monitor every moment how much fat is being removed. This monitoring is done through visual and tactile sensations and is based on years of understanding the effect of having fat removed from different areas. If too much fat is removed, a patient can end up with a more long term dent or depression. If not enough fat is removed, then there will be residual lumps. If the fat is removed too close to the skin in an inappropriate way, there may be lumpiness. Liposuction performed in the safe way is often very effective and very safe and patients can expect to have a good result.

Laser liposuction is a modern treatment that can tackle persistent fat deposits in target areas; this includes the abdomen, butt, thighs and more. Of course, patients must be deemed eligible for this treatment before they can benefit from it, so before you can take advantage of a laser liposuction procedure, you must make an appointment at the Dr Lanzer Clinic for a medical evaluation. During this evaluation, you can also ask your surgeon any questions you may have about a laser liposuction procedure as well as discuss the results you wish to obtain from the treatment.
On the Dr Lanzer website, prospective patients can find numerous information pages about laser liposuction; this includes how the procedure is performed and the common benefits associated with it. Patients who would like to learn more about a laser liposuction before their initial appointment at the Dr Lanzer Clinic can refer to these information pages to learn more about it. We also have a page with frequently asked questions, where you might find the question you currently need an answer to. Of course, all information on the website can also be obtained from the clinic during your appointment, or can be requested specifically by the patient in advance. So, if you require more information about laser liposuction, feel free to contact our support team.
