Man Boobs Before & After by Melanie

One of my favourite procedures is treating gynaecomastia in men by performing liposuction with or without a subcutaneous mastectomy.

Some men have predominantly fatty tissue in their chest, which can be removed via liposuction. However, if they have actual breast tissue, this requires a surgical incision to remove, a procedure called a subcutaneous mastectomy. It is surprising how many men come to the clinic for this treatment, so I feel very happy that we can offer it.

The male breast reduction can be a life-changing procedure for guys that have struggled with their self-confidence for years. Simple things like wearing a fitted t-shirt or shirt or going to the beach are no longer a daunting prospect for men who have undergone this procedure. Feeling like you have “man boobs” can be quite an uncomfortable feeling. Even men who go to the effort of losing weight and working hard at the gym can still have man boobs; this is due to the presence of actual breast tissue. Unless this is surgically removed, it will always be there.

Gynaecomastia can be genetic, so quite often other male members of the family suffer from the condition as well to some extent. Just last week we had a patient return that had the procedure done months ago. This time he was returning with one of his friends who has the same condition. This support is fantastic and I really enjoy the fact that men now feel open enough to share their experiences with friends and make the subject less taboo.

Cosmetic surgery was generally viewed as being primarily for women, however nowadays men who suffer from conditions such as this have the opportunity to have something done. Dr Lanzer performs at least a few of these procedures every week.

What Is Gynaecomastia?

Gynaecomastia is a condition where a male patient has excess breast tissue and/or fat in the breasts; this causes the man to have breasts with a dominant female look. To correct the problem, a male breast reduction is performed to remove tissue and fat, subsequently reshaping the chest.

Can Weight Loss Provide a Solution for Gynaecomastia?

Only a small percentage of men experience an improvement in gynaecomastia by losing weight; this is usually the case for men who are overweight. However, gynaecomastia can have a genetic component, which could mean the patient in question has a large volume of breast tissue opposed to fat. In these cases, surgery might be the most effective option.

To determine the best treatment option for gynaecomastia, it is certainly recommended to speak to an experienced cosmetic surgery. Dr Lanzer has treated numerous patients with gynaecomastia, so he is the advised person to speak to about this problem.
