Tummy Tuck Liposuction Procedures
Tummy Tuck Liposuction Procedures
As a dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon, Dr Lanzer has had a long-standing interest in skin tightening and fat reduction procedures. For over 25 years, Dr Daniel Lanzer has performed thousands of procedures and offers the latest abdominoplasty treatment, which is referred to as tummy tuck liposuction or lipectomy.
Dr Lanzer has had hands on training in America with Dr Marco Pelosi II and III, Cosmetic Surgeons located in New Jersey. Dr Pelosi has extensive experience in abdominoplasty, liposuction, breast augmentation, fat transfer and gynaecology services.
The knowledge and experienced passed on by Dr Pelosi has allowed Dr Lanzer to continue his practice in a holistic way, allowing him to give patients the procedural option most suited to them. Now Dr Lanzer can offer Liposuction in combination with an abdominoplasty to achieve smoother and flatter results. For those who are simply suffering from some loose skin, Dr Lanzer can perform the mini tummy tuck liposuction, which does not require any movement of the belly button and has a smaller incision.
Dr Lanzer chose to be trained by Dr Pelosi II and III as they are the co-founders of the International Society of Cosmetogynecology. Their technique of Abdominoplasty combines tumescent liposuction which is Dr Lanzer’s expertise, accompanied by skin removal.
Abdominoplasty procedures have been linked to numerous complications, such as trauma and compromised blood supply. Dr Pelosi II and III have incorporated the tumescent anaesthesia technique for numbing the area and to reduce bleeding. They also incorporate some liposuction when performing an abdominoplasty, named the “abdominolipoplasty”. This means that traditional requirements of blood transfusions are no longer there. It also means that some patients can have the procedure under a local anaesthetic, thereby reducing the recovery time. They also do not admit the patient to hospital for aftercare. As an advocate for tumescent anaesthetic used in tummy tuck Liposuction, Dr Lanzer has seen the benefits of this type of anaesthetic for years. Benefits include reduced blood loss, patient comfort, reduced post-operative pain, and a reduced need for heavy pain medication.
Dr Lanzer’s nursing staff has been provided with the skills to ensure your questions are answered. Their knowledge has been developed to cover all aspects of your surgery, including pre-operative considerations and post-operative care. They will be available to assist you at any time throughout your journey; this to ensure both your comfort and peace of mind.
About the Procedure:
A “tummy tuck liposuction” is the procedure whereby excess skin and fat is removed from the abdomen and the underlying muscles are tightened. There are two main reasons one may be a candidate for an abdominoplasty. The first is pregnancy and the second is a weight gain or loss of + or – 10%. These cause wrinkling of the skin and stretch marks, excess fat tissue, and rectus muscle diastasis, whereby the muscles of the abdomen have separated. When the muscles have been stretched to such an extent, it is highly unlikely that diet and exercise alone will give you the results you desire. Liposuction could be an alternative treatment.
Before you have the procedure, it is always advantageous for patients to get Dr Lanzer’s opinion. Based on his expert insight, patients can choose the treatment that is right for them.
How Is a Tummy Tuck Done?
This procedure targets skin wrinkling, excess fat and muscle diastasis. This allows for the skin to be pulled very tight, giving the appearance of a smooth, flat stomach. This procedure can be paired with tumescent liposuction to curve the hips and waist for optimum results.
A tummy tuck involves a long incision made along the bikini line just above the pubic area. The belly button is then separated from the surrounding skin. The skin and fat are then lifted, and the separated rectus muscle is then sutured together. The excess skin is then stretched down, and excess skin and fat removed. There is a new opening created for the belly button and a drain is inserted to remove excess fluid and blood. The incision is then sutured together neatly, with every attempt to keep the scar hidden in the bikini line.
Mini Tummy Tuck:
A mini tummy tuck Liposuction is also referred to as a “partial abdominoplasty”. This procedure does not require the belly button to be repositioned and is most suitable for patients who have a pouch of fat and loose skin under the belly button. It involves an incision being made along the bikini line, suturing of the muscle and removal of excess fat and skin. It can be used in conjunction with liposuction around the area (upper and sides) to create an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The advantage of a mini tummy tuck, if it is suitable for you, is that it is a smaller incision and less invasive than a full abdominoplasty.
This is a procedure whereby excess skin and fat is removed from the abdomen without suturing the muscles back together. It is ideal for women who are slim and toned, however have slight wrinkling or excess skin. The scar is in the same area of the full abdominoplasty and mini tummy tuck.
It is important to note that a tummy tuck liposuction procedure will not eliminate all stretch marks, and that if there are stretch marks present these may just be shifted further down the stomach. You will have a scar running along the lowest part of your abdomen, the length of this will vary depending on which type of abdominoplasty you elect to have. If you have a full abdominoplasty, you will also have a scar around your belly button. The belly button will also look different to a standard belly button. The scar can take up to a year before it flattens out and fades, however the final results are individually based. You can obtain some indication as to how you will heal by comparing it to other scars you have had previously. As with any procedure, there are risks involved. We address and attempt to minimise each risk to ensure the safety of our patients. These risks will be discussed with you in more detail upon your consultation.
The procedures are day procedures, meaning that you will be admitted in the morning and discharged later that night. The procedure can be performed under either a local or general anaesthetic which takes 1 to 3 hours, however you need to allow more time for admission, recovery and discharge. There will be sutures in place for 5 – 7 days which will be removed by one of our nurses. A drain tube is inserted for 2-10 days post procedure which is very easy to manage. A simple dressing with compression garment are then put in place.
Generally, patients can return to a desk job 1-week post-surgery and may resume physical activities after 4 weeks. The result of the procedure becomes evident after the scar heals, which can take between 6 – 12 months, although patients are able to already notice a big difference prior to this. It is important for you to thoroughly discuss with us your expectations so that we can ensure we deliver your desired outcome. Our dedicated staff are here to support you every step of the way, so please take advantage of their knowledge and support.
What Are Commonly Asked Tummy Tuck Liposuction Questions?
What is the difference between a tummy tuck liposuction and a lipo-tuck?
The lipo-tuck means that a large part of the operation is performed using the safest method of liposuction called tumescence. Dr Lanzer has experience of some 15,000 cases. This allows him to expertly use the procedure on new patients, subsequently numbing the treatment area with tumescent fluid and reduce or stop bleeding. The fluid also reduces the risk of infection. It finally allows a more limited surgical tuck that should be safer.
Do I need a full or a mini tummy tuck?
Only Dr. Lanzer can answer this question, since he must determine what the patient could benefit from the most. The best treatment also depends on the requirements of the patient, which are best discussed with Dr. Lanzer.
Does a tummy tuck hurt?
Patients will not experience any pain during the procedure, since anaesthetic is used during the tummy tuck to keep the patient comfortable. Once the anaesthetic wears off, the patient can experience some overall discomfort. However, pain experienced after a tummy tuck can usually be managed by over-the-counter pain medication. Your cosmetic surgeon can also prescribe some pain management medication if required.
What is the recovery time for a tummy tuck?
The recovery time of a tummy tuck varies for each patient, since every patient heals in his or her own time. While Dr. Lanzer can provide patients with an estimate for their recovery, it is always best to listen to your own body during your recovery. Take as much time as you need to let your body heal, and do not try to force anything too early.
How long is tummy tuck surgery?
Naturally, the duration of a tummy tuck procedure does depend on the amount of fat and skin that must be removed. After you have been evaluated by Dr. Lanzer, he can tell you more about the duration of your tummy tuck surgery.

Will I have a big scar?
Yes, the scar is across the lower stomach about 6-8 centimetres from the vagina. It is usually below the bikini line; this means patients can hide the scar underneath their clothing or swimwear.
What will happen to the loose skin?
The loose skin is excised and surgically removed.
Do I always have to move the belly button?
This is a decision you will make with Dr Lanzer. Often the answer is no, but if you have a lot of loose skin it will need to be shifted.
Do I get a new belly button?
No. It’s your belly button, but it is moved to another location.
How do I know if I need suturing of the deep muscles?
You can do a simple test and lie on your back and whilst you lift your head and chest off the bed feel the central muscle especially above the umbilicus. You may feel either a split in the muscle of an unusual bulging.
Do I need to go to hospital?
Dr Lanzer does NOT admit his patients to hospital as a routine.
Do I need private insurance?
Can I have liposuction and consider a tuck later?
Yes, this is a common choice and Dr Lanzer waits 6 months.
What are the risks?
All surgery has risks of infection, bruising and swelling. The scar is a risk, and everyone heals differently. DVT clots to legs and its potential complications are a risk. Dr Lanzer takes measures to reduce this chance.
How do I decide if I should have the tummy tuck or the liposuction?
Dr Lanzer offers a free no-obligation consultation, so you can understand your options. Dr Lanzer warns all surgery, so patients should always consider available options carefully.
The tummy tuck is a procedure that could be obtained after a period of considerable weight loss, but only if the patient has maintained his or her weight loss over some time. It is also a procedure for women who have tried to get back into shape after a pregnancy, but struggle with some persistent fat deposits and excess skin despite regular exercise and a healthy diet.
To discover if you could benefit from a tummy tuck procedure, it is recommended to make an appointment with Dr Lanzer, who is one of Australia’s leading specialists where liposuction procedures are concerned. Your suitability for a tummy tuck procedure depends on the aesthetic problems you are facing and the results you want to obtain. Patients must have realistic expectations to benefit from a tummy tuck procedure and must fully understand the risks involved as well.
The information about the procedure, as well as an overview of the risks the patient should consider, will be provided by the Dr Lanzer Clinic and the medical team.
