Case Study: Female Liposuction Before & After Photos
A common request regarding liposculpture is to have a waist. Women like to have the curvature of the abdomen that gives shape to the body. Some women present with a very square looking stomach that goes straight down from the outer ribs to the hips without any shape. This is not always related to being overweight. It can happen in slim people as well as patients who are overweight. To create a waist is a 3-dimensional process aimed at developing a curvature on the sides of the abdomen. The curvature starts from the front of the stomach and then gets more curved on the side and less around the back. A surgeon who wishes to create a nice waist, needs to have a 3-dimensional outlook and be able to visualise how the area is going to appear post surgery. Sometimes when performing waist liposculpture, we will also take fat from the back and the hips in order to create the full silhouette appearance. Sometimes also liposculpture of the stomach would be done at the same time. The techniques that cause maximum skin contraction work best in this area.
Superficial liposculpture which was initially described by an Italian plastic surgeon many years ago, works well in this area as it enhances the skin contraction. Dr. Lanzer will also sometimes use the Vaser liposculpture device to enhance skin contraction. Post surgery, VelaShape skin tightening can also enhance the contraction. The goal of a curved waist is certainly to look better in clothing. Sometimes patients who have no waist, tend to complain that they look overweight and fat. One of the important things that people need to be aware of is that sometimes people have loose curved stomach muscle. This is often seen with having had children and the curvature of the muscle results from weakness of the muscle, splitting of the muscle, and sometimes fat under the muscle.
This can sometimes affect how the waist will appear. We can only do liposculpture on the surface that is from the muscle out to the skin. If there is fat deep in, patients need to consider exercise and weight loss. Sometimes, the muscle is closed during a tummy tuck procedure where the actual split in the muscle was sutured together. Liposculpture is not just about removing fat, but it is about getting shape, refining the body, and trying to make a body that looks slimmer and lighter. Looking lighter is one of the focuses of our procedures. The fat and short look is not appealing to most people.
People want to create that image that they look light and slimmer. Genetics also plays a big role in shaping of the stomach. Many women find that if they do not have a waist, that their mother also did not have a waist. It is interesting how many women do come in saying that they do not want to look like their mother. Particularly, I find this around the neck and face area. One of the ways to see if a cosmetic or dermatologist surgeon could create a waist, is to actually use your hands on either side and grab the fat. If there is fat that one can grab before one gets to the muscle, then certainly reshaping of the waist is a feasible option.
