Liposuction Under A General Anaesthetic – Before And After Photographs
Liposuction is a procedure that can be executed under a local anaesthetic or a general anaesthetic depending on the circumstances. For the purpose of this article, we will be looking at liposuction under general anaesthetic.
We offer some liposuction procedures to be performed under a general anaesthetic. These procedures are generally offered when the patient is having liposuction performed on more than one or two areas, or on a larger area. General anaesthetic can also be used if the patient has a very low pain threshold.
When Can Liposuction Be Performed Under A General Anaesthetic?
Many of our general anaesthetic procedures are performed on a Monday, however this can sometimes vary. If performed on a Monday, most patients are told they can return to an office job the following Monday.
Please note that a procedure under a general anaesthetic does not necessarily have to take place on a Monday, it is just a day The Dr Lanzer Clinic prefers to execute general anaesthetic procedures. So, if you cannot have the procedure on a Monday for whatever reason, you can still come to The Dr Lanzer Clinic for the treatment.
Naturally, if you do not have the procedure on the Monday, it can influence the day you can return to work. In case of the previous example, if you have the procedure on a Tuesday, you could return to your office job the next Tuesday.
Does Liposuction With General Anaesthetic Have Any Side-Effects?
Common side effects from a general anaesthetic procedure include feeling nauseous, vomiting and dizziness. We have a highly experienced and caring anaesthetist, who has been working alongside Dr Lanzer for many years. He will consult with you prior to the procedure and talk to you about previous procedures to identify any allergies or reactions you may have had to general anaesthetics in the past.
Most general anaesthetic liposuction procedures will go for a maximum of two hours; this means that you will not be under anaesthetic for too long, therefore there will not be as many side effects as what is associated with longer, more complex procedures.
Naturally, despite the fact that treatments go for a maximum of two hours, patients will still experience some side-effects from the general anaesthetic. Because of this, we advise that someone drives you home after the procedure.
We also warn patients of the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis, however, this is a rare risk as the procedure length is short and the patient is able to ambulate well within two hours post-procedure. If we feel the patient is at risk of deep vein thrombosis, they will be treated with some prophylaxis therapies.
Among our other aftercare guidelines, we stress the importance of having a carer at home with the patient on the first night post-procedure; this is a time when patients are likely to feel dizzy and faint. If the patient does not have anyone to care for them, we do have a facility we can recommend, which has nurses on call should the patient require any assistance during the first night.
What Is The Importance Of Case Study 4?
Case study 4 is a prime example of how liposuction can be used to reshape the body. Due to excess fat deposits in the midsection and back of the patient, the feminine shape of the patient is less noticeable. After the removal of 4.8 litres of fat, the patient obtained a smoother overall shape and a more defined waist. While diet and exercise are always the first lines of treatment for patients, in some cases, getting a liposuction procedure can give a patient a head start.
What Are The Benefits Of This Type Of Liposuction?
The benefits obtained from this liposuction procedure can be more long term, but the patient must maintain a healthy diet after the surgery. The patient must also exercise regularly to avoid excess fat from piling up again in the body. Even though the fat cells are removed during a liposuction procedure, it does not mean that fat cannot return to another location when the patient does not maintain a healthy lifestyle after the treatment.
Patients who have struggled with their diet or exercise in the past can turn to The Dr Lanzer Clinic for some additional assistance, since we have a medical team that can address issues such as nutrition and diet. Patients can also get some additional help from their GP or another trained medical professional.
We must stress that liposuction is never a weight loss solution. The procedure is aimed at contouring the body through the removal of persistent fats, so most patients will be on or around their target weight when having this treatment.
