ON THE DAY OF THE PROCEDURE – LOCAL ANESTHETIC TUMESCENT LIPOSUCTION:
The patient will arrive on the day of the procedure and be greeted by our friendly reception staff. They will ensure all relevant paperwork has been completed and then pass you over to one of the nurses who will complete your pre-admission. Dr Lanzer will then consult you and take some photos for your file. He will then mark the areas where the Liposuction will be performed and take some more photos for your file. One of the nurses will then administer some pre medications and get you prepared for the procedure.
In the theatre or treatment room, the nurse will lay drapes over you and then wash you in an antibacterial solution. She will then administer a local anesthetic in the location of where the small knicks in the skin will be made and then create these knicks with a small blade. The Tumescent local anesthetic fluid is then administered through these knicks. The amount of fluid used is calculated by your weight to ensure the safe amount is administered. This fluid is then left to sit for at least an hour to ensure the area goes nice and numb and the blood vessels constrict to reduce bleeding.
Dr Lanzer will then suck out the fat using a cannula best suited to your shape and size. When he sucks out the fat, some of the Tumescent Fluid will come out with it, but some will stay inside you. This helps to maintain a good fluid balance. After the procedure, the knicks in the skin are usually left open and you will not require stitches. Absorbent dressings are applied by the nurse and your compression garment will be placed over the top. You will spend some time in recovery where the nurse will monitor you and ensure you are feeling well enough to be discharged with a carer. We see you the following day to remove your dressings.
Excess fat around the mid-section can cause the patient’s physique to appear less feminine. Even patients who are on their target weight can experience this problem, because some fats are stubborn and won’t disappear despite a healthy diet and plenty of exercise. The patient in the case study above is a good example of a patient who has a less defined feminine shape due to excess fat around the mid-section. When looking at the photograph, the patient shows excess fat around the waist. By getting a large volume liposuction procedure, the patient could acquire a more feminine and defined shape. While most patients can see a considerable difference after their liposuction procedure, the actual result cannot be evaluated until the body had the time to recover. It is common to experience bruising and swelling after liposuction, so only after these symptoms have dissipated can a patient evaluate the results of the procedure and the changes their body has gone through, which is also the time the after photographs are taken at the Dr Lanzer Clinic.
We also must mention that patients must maintain a healthy weight after the procedure, because despite the removal of stubborn fat, persistent fat can return if the patient gains a considerable amount of weight. Therefore, the Dr Lanzer Clinic recommends maintaining a healthy diet after the procedure. Once the patient can exercise again, the patient should also exercise regularly to keep their body in good shape and persistent fats at bay.
