A very common request today is for a Brazilian buttock. This is when the buttock has more shape. There are 2 ways to obtain a Brazilian buttock. One is to actually inject fat into the buttock. The other is to perform a high-definition liposculpture around the buttock which will then lead to a buttock that has more shape. In the pre-operative photograph one can see a very square rectangular buttock which almost starts from the top of the hip and goes down to the outer thighs. By removing extensive amounts of fat from the hips, we were able to make the buttocks seem more prominent. One can also notice the amount of skin contraction that was seen in this procedure due to the tumescent technique performed with the MicroAire. Dr. Lanzer likes MicroAire as he is able to remove the maximum amount of fat and get the best skin contraction. Sometimes, he will combine it with the Vaser. Patients who have this procedure need also to keep an eye on their weight and diet. If a patient puts on weight, fat can come back in other areas. Long term results are maintained by healthy living standards. To get the result, weight loss is not required as the result is seen with the liposculpture itself.
HOW DOES ONE DESIGN A BRAZILIAN BUTTOCK?
The procedure is decided by Dr. Lanzer pre-operatively. He has the patient standing and marks with a blue Texta the areas that require the major amount of fat and those that require less. Through a process of sculpturing which involves feeling and looking, he observes where the fat comes out during the procedure so that he can develop the exact shaping that he likes.
IS THERE ANY POST-OPERATIVE TREATMENT REQUIRED?
Post operatively, a garment is worn. Dr. Lanzer likes to use a specialised foam garment that reduces swelling and helps with the healing.
DO I NEED ANTIBIOTICS?
Yes, all patients have antibiotics following liposculpture in order to reduce the risk of infection. Infection is very uncommon with liposculpture because it is done in our fully sterile day surgery centre. The patient is given oral and intramuscular antibiotics. Finally, the tumescent fluid is also antibacterial.
HOW LONG ARE THE GARMENTS WORN FOR?
The garments are worn for 2 weeks all the time and 2 weeks part of the time.
WHEN CAN I RETURN BACK TO WORK?
Most patients return back to work after 1 week and can recommence exercise after a further 2 weeks.
HOW CAN I TELL THE TYPE OF RESULTS THAT I CAN SEE?
Dr. Lanzer will often take photographs and draw on them in order to show patients the type of changes that they will potentially see. Dr. Lanzer finds this is quite helpful for patients so they can visualise the type of result that they are going to have with cosmetic surgery.
HOW LONG HAS DR. LANZER BEEN DOING LIPOSUCTION FOR?
Dr. Lanzer started liposculpture in the year 1992 when he helped convene the first conference on tumescent liposuction. A colleague of his, Dr. Jeffry Klein, also a dermatologist, helped develop this method in Los Angeles. Dr. Lanzer convened a hands-on conference to teach others as well. This was all followed by national television. Since then, Dr. Lanzer has helped develop other aspects of liposuction such as liposuction for breast reduction, mega liposuction, and liposculpture of the neck. Dr. Lanzer also performs a liposuction method for tummy tuck called lipo-tuck.
