WHY DO MEN HAVE MAN BOOB REDUCTION?
Many men are concerned by the female appearance of their breasts which is called man boobs or gynecomastia.
WHAT MAKES UP THE MAN BOOBS?
Man boobs are made up of either fat or breast tissue or a combination of both.
HOW DOES THE TREATMENT VARY IN MAN BOOB REDUCTION?
If the breast is just fatty then a liposculpture is all that is required. Often Dr. Lanzer uses a Micro Aire device or Vaser liposculpture which will allow maximum removal of fat and the best skin contraction. If there is breast tissue then a small incision cut will be made on the edge of the nipple and the breast tissue would be removed.
HOW BIG IS THE BREAST TISSUE?
Breast tissue can vary from a very large mass, almost the size of a tennis ball, down to a small marble. Sometimes people complain of a nipple protrusion. Yes, sometimes the gland can just be a small bump that is just under the nipple. This is removed with the gynecomastia surgery.
HOW DOES THE WEATHER AFFECT NIPPLES?
A lot of men do notice that the nipple changes in the heat and the cold. Some men do have a concern with those changes. This often does change when having had gynecomastia surgery.
DO I NEED TO BE ASLEEP FOR GYNECOMASTIA SURGERY?
No. Man boobs can be treated whilst patients are awake in the majority of cases. The local anesthetic is placed in using the tumescent technique and then the procedure is performed by Dr. Lanzer.
HOW LONG DO I NEED TO WEAR A GARMENT?
A thin garment is worn for 2 weeks after surgery. This can be applied under the clothes. It is advisable not to do anything strenuous for 1-2 weeks following surgery.
IS MAN BOOB REDUCTION A COMMON PROCEDURE?
Man boobs is actually the most common surgical procedure that Dr. Lanzer performs in his day surgery centre in Melbourne. Patients travel from all over Australia to have the procedure with Dr. Lanzer as he has an excellent technique which combines tumescent liposuction with a mini excision.
WILL MEDICAID COVER MAN BOOB/GYNECOMASTIA?
Medicare will cover part of the costs if there is a formal excision of the breast tissue.
